This is important as a future educator because I need to know how to help those groups that have decreasing reading scores as reading ability is linked to other school performance areas, as the article details.

This article details many of the challenges that Bilingual families face in our society. The number of immigrants coming into America has grown steadily, and there are many in the U.S. who refuse to recognize this change. Furthermore, the resistance to adapting to accomodiate the language barriers that many of the immigrants face has been surprising in the strength. For example, this article details the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act, which stated that there should be no government worker required to speak in any language other than English.
This article details many of the challenges that ELL students face because of the mandates NCLB put in place in 2001. This article also provides links to resources for teachers and provides suggestions for providing the best possible education for these types of students.
This was a huge study done by several universities as a graduate project to study the differences between ELL students and non ELL as school performance relates in regards to the language barrier. Included in the study are the findings, implications, and suggestions for application in the classroom.
