• Around 48% of all people diagnosed with AIDS in America were probably infected with HIV through  male-to-male sexual contact, while people exposed through heterosexual contact  comprise around 17% total AIDS cases.

• At the end of 2007, an estimated 455,636 people were  living with AIDS in America
• The CDC estimates that around 1.1 million adults and  adolescents are living with HIV in the USA, including those not yet diagnosed,  and including those who have already progressed to AIDS
