Following many hours of consultation and preparation by Animal Control officers, in the end a glue trap captured a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch, a 48-hour incident that generated nationwide interest.

We guided the cobra into a red bucket and took it to a safe location so that we could fully remove the glue from its body.

WRAL's cameras caught the snake the previous day crawling onto the porch of a house on Sandringham Drive. Lifting its head, it was able to see its hood.

After confirming it was the snake, Animal Control officers moved the camera crews back before moving in to capture it.

A 911 call from the same location prompted the search early Tuesday morning.

Raleigh is a North Carolina city. Despite hours of consultation and preparation of law enforcement and animal control officers, a glue trap captured a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch on Wednesday, capping a 48-hour saga that attracted national attention.

Glue was removed from the cobra's body by placing it in a red bucket and moving it to a safe location.

An earlier video interview had captured a striped snake crawling onto a porch on Sandringham Drive from the siding of a house. As it lifted its head, the hood was visible.

Before moving in to capture the snake, Animal Control officers moved camera crews to the back.

Neighbor Joan Nelson said the ordeal was over.

'I feel very safe now,' she said. It feels as if I can now go outside and enjoy the scenery. Even so, I feel kind of sorry for the snake.

One zebra cobra has gone missing from a north Raleigh neighborhood where there is a striped snake on a porch.

The snake is a zebra cobra and can spit up to nine feet long, making even a morning dog walk a daunting task. The African Snakebite Institute states that the snake is very dangerous. As a result of the venom, a victim's nervous system could shut down.

One who is poisoned by the cobra would immediately feel pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. Following a heavy fever, breathing problems would result, leading to respiratory failure.

A veterinarian at Avian and Exotic Animal Care, Salina Locke, treats all sorts of animals there.

The species of cobras that are found in this area do not bite. She said they are more likely to spray their venom . they are very precise and go straight for the eyes.

Despite the risks involved, Locke doesn't recommend buying this snake for a pet.

The majority of bites occur during sleep. Bite victims may suffer health problems for years, research reveals.

In the afternoon of Tuesday, police searched a home near the street where the cobra was last spotted, at 6917 Chamonix Place.

Four police officers visited the home in March to investigate an animal problem. They returned Monday and Tuesday after seeing the zebra cobra on a porch about a half mile away.
