1917 - Lenin's Body and The October Revolution

The October Revolution was just another major event that occurred in the same year as that of the February Revolution.

Now that the fall of the monarch, Russia stood without a leader. And attempting to fill up this void and mitigate the nation’s unrest, the Duma allowed the formation of a Provisional Government.

The Provisional Government, which was referred to as the Russian Republic, was initially headed by Prince Georgy Yevgenyevich Lvov. The new head of state promised the restoration of order in the nation and amendment of the rights of workers. But the continuation of the war still kept on causing more economical trouble for Russia, and the society had very little to alleviate its grievance.

In the coming months, Prince Lvov, was replaced by Alexander Kerensky. Kerensky did whatever was possible to gain full control over the country, but Russia’s continual participation in the war, added to the worsening economic conditions, repelled a major part of its supporters.

The Bolsheviks, with Lenin as their leader, could gather enough support from the populace. They promised to complete Russia’s partaking in the war and propagated their “peace, land and bread” program. Then on October 24th – 25th the party could actually organize a coup and oust the provisional government.
