How to Send an Internet Fax from a Computer?

Internet fax is the next step in faxing technologies. It is fast becoming the conventional means of sending secure data between businesses, or between businesses and individuals. Below, we are going to explain the process of sending a secure fax online.

The first thing that you need to do is to decide what type of service you want. You have three general choices:

1.       You can install a fax modem on your computer and purchase fax software

2.       You can install a fax server at your place of work and then purchase fax software

3.       You can use a third party secure fax service

Once you have chosen your desired method, and purchased the appropriate software, hardware or service, then you are ready to send your fax. To do this, follow the instruction below:

1.       Prepare the fax so that it is in an appropriate digital format. This will depend on the service you use, but often PDF or Gif is used.

2.       To ensure added security, encrypt the document by adding password protection.

3.       Prepare a fax cover – the software or service will allow you to create a template that you can attach to every fax you send.

4.       Open your email programme, create a new email, and attach the document.

5.       In the ‘To’ section of the email, enter the number you wish to fax the document too, followed by the @-sign and the delivery service you use. For instance, if you use Interfax, you have to type in the fax number followed by @fax.tc.

6.       Press send. The host will then translate the document into a fax readable format, and will forward the fax to the recipient.

7.       The recipient can pick up the fax using their fax software, or using the fax machine.
