Police in Georgetown, Guyana, said yesterday they had uncovered a possible coup plot and had arrested a dozen people, including a former Guyana army officer and a police oficer. Few details were available about the alleged plot against President Desmond Hoyte. It would be the second such conspiracy in less than 18 months in this former British colony in northeastern South America.
