Amir and Hassan

Quote from "The Kite Runner"

" 'You are right, Agha. But perhaps you didn't notice that I'm the one holding the slingshot. If you make a move, they'll have to change your nickname...becasue I have this rock pointed at your levt eye.' He said that so flatly that even I had to strain to hear the fear that I knew hid under his calm voice" (42).

The relationship between Amir and Hassan is very unique. Amir doesn't associate with Hassan when they are outside with others nor does he show much concern for him in his time of needs, but, Amir does care very much for Hassan. So much, in fact, that he puts his life on the line to protect Sohrab, Hassan's son.

In Amir and Hassan's relationship, they mostly are seen under the tree on the big hill where Amir reads and tells stories the Hassan. They are also the Kite Running Duo who end up winning a Kite Fighting Contest. They are very well synchronized and enjoy one another's company.

One down-side to their relationship is that Amir doesn't fight back to protect Hassan or himself. Hassan does all the protecting.

Although they come from different families, or so they think, Amir and Hassan have a very significant relationship. They have different morals but they work together in perfect harmony. The irony of their relationship is that they are brothers yet Amir shows few signs of being a responsible older brother.
