• Windows/Mac/Linux: The "near-final" release of Thunderbird 3's release candidate has arrived, adding universal search, nearly automatic account setup, and better RSS and calendar management to Mozilla's desktop mail client. Grab a copy and see for yourself.

     

  We've often recommended Thunderbird as a means of backing up your webmail and accessing Gmail when it's "down,", but, to be honest, most Lifehacker editors (and readers, we'd guess) are doing most of their email management in a browser these days. It'll be interesting to see if Thunderbird 3 can be an equal, or at least a complement, to full-fledged webmail services like Gmail.
