  • As I’ve talked with many different audiences over the past two years about Enterprise 2.0, I’ve noticed that the same questions keep coming up, and I wanted to capture them. I’ll talk about the best answers to these questions later, and also about which of them seem to be most legitimate—to reflect the real risks a company takes on when it deploys emergent social software platforms (which from now on I’m just going to abbreviate as ESSPs). For now I just wanted to list them, and to make sure that I’m not missing any common ones.

Why Companies Need Web 2.0: Beyond Blinking Lights and Acronyms

    • Whether and how we deploy these technologies likely will have an impact on our ability to attract new talent to our companies and to find and retain customers. Here's a sampling of these technologies:

      • RSS (Really Simple Syndication) automatically feeds you information you want.
      • Social networks, such as Facebook and MySpace.
      • A quick messaging technology, such as Twitter, that lets people know what you are doing.
      • Social networking technologies such as FriendFeed, which lets users share Web pages, photos, videos and music with friends and family.
      • Instant messaging. E-mail is so "last decade."
      • Wikis, blogs and mash-ups to share, collect and edit information.
