Flashing LED - BEAM Wiki

  • A flashing LED is just an LED with a built-in microcircuit to cause it to flash periodically.
  • Like other LEDs, FLEDs are light-sensitive, and so flash faster in brighter light.

Electronics Applications

  • When
light shines on the LDR, it has low resistance and allows current to flow.  When light does not shine on it, the LDR has
a very high resistance, and a much smaller current will not flow through it.
  • The
current through a photodiode is directly proportional to the light
    intensity

Robot Room: Color Sensor from a Reversed LED and Op Amp

  • an LED put in backwards provides current flow from light
  • a reversed LED is most sensitive to the same color of visible light as it normally emits.
For example, if a circuit uses a reversed green LED, the most current will flow from exposure to green light.

Handy Cricket Hardware Description

  • the chip's logic supply is switched by a pair of OR gates! If
both motors are turned off, then then is no need to provide logic
voltage to the motor chip. The chip uses about 20 mA of current when
it's sitting idle (motors off), so removing the logic voltage provides
    a substantial current savings.

piezo buzzer

  • The acoustic
generating method can be roughly divided into self-drive oscillation
method and external-drive oscillation method. The former shows
the lowest impedance on the acoustic generator, and produces the
sound by the positive feedback oscillation circuit to make resonance.
Thereby, big sound pressure can be obtained by a simple circuit.
While the latter selects an optional frequency and makes sound
by the nonstable multivibrator, and it is used for the case having
    the oscillation circuit.

geda:gsch2pcb_tutorial [geda Wiki]

  • The goal is to use gsch2pcb as the bridge between gschem and PCB so that the schematics can always be in sync with the PCB layout because all element additions or deletions in the layout will automatically be driven by changes in the schematics.

Open drain - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

  • Open drain circuits are therefore sometimes used to interface two series of devices that have different operating logic levels (voltages).
  • more than one open-drain output can be attached to a single wire. If all outputs attached to the wire are in the high-impedance/logic 1 state, the pull-up resistor will hold the wire in a high voltage state. If at least one of the device outputs is in the ground/logic 0 state, it will sink current and bring the line voltage low.

BEAM Pieces -- Integrated circuits

  • The following material is intended to cover usage and part selection details of ICs you're most likely to see in BEAM robots.
    - yorkjong on 2007-05-27
  • We use them as 3- or
    5-volt triggers
  • 1381s are CMOS
voltage-controlled triggers -- these "gate" a source until
the voltage is above some "trip" limit, at which point it is
    allowed onto a third pin
