Going.com Lands $5 million

Event based social network Going.com
has taken an additional $5 million in funding, in a round led by the sites original investors General Catalyst Partners and Highland Capital Partners.Going.com recently passed 500,000 users, up from 200,000 users in early June and an impressive feat considering the service currently only operates in four cities: New York, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco.
George Bell and Bob Davis from General Catalyst and Highland Capital respectively will remain on the Going.com board of directors.
Going.com competes with Minglenow, Socialzr and LateNightShots. Going.com was previously known as HeyLetsGo.

Going.com, a social networking site where 20-somethings can find out what events are happening around town, has secured $5 million in a follow-on investment round from General Catalyst and Highland Capital Partners, the company said on Wednesday.
The company currently operates in four cities: Boston, Chicago, New York and San Francisco. The Web site gets about 500,000 visitors each month

"We think providing a hyper local community connecting 20-somethings with similar passionate interests in their urban city is just the beginning of a local media revolution," said Evan Schumacher, CEO of Going.com, in a statement.
General Catalyst is based in Cambridge, Mass., and Highland Capital Partners is in Lexington, Mass.
