"The flying displays and stacks of missiles that pepper the world's air shows will be absent when the annual Asian Aerospace trade fair starts Tuesday in Hong Kong, reflecting the sensitivities of mainland China, which is reshaping the global aerospace industry's balance of power."
"China’s evacuation of its citizens from Libya became a multi-service operation on the afternoon of 28 February 2011, when the PLA Air Force (PLAAF) flew four IL-76 long-range transport aircraft from Diwopu International Airport in Urumqi, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (Northwest China). Their destination: Sabha, in east-central Libya. According to China Central Television (CCTV)-7, Beijing’s official military channel, the mission is to rescue Chinese citizens “stranded” in Libya. The PLAAF’s deployment of assets into a theater where the PLA Navy already has the Xuzhou missile frigate scheduled to arrive in waters off Libya very shortly sets an historic precedent for deploying military assets to protect Chinese nationals abroad."
China is studying the feasibility of designing a powerful carrier rocket for making a manned moon landing and exploring deep space, Liang Xiaohong, vice head of the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology, told Xinhua Thursday.
"The head of NASA visited China's manned space flight launch center during a trip to the country to explore possibilities for cooperation, the U.S. agency said Tuesday."
"The Zhuhai air show is showcasing China's ambitions to create Asia's first successful commercial airplane business in a challenge to Airbus and Boeing's long-standing domination of the industry."
Commercial Aircraft Corp. of China (Comac) has mounted a challenge to Boeing and Airbus in the world's second-biggest aircraft market, announcing its first 100 C919 passenger-plane orders.

With the C919, the Chinese are taking on Western aircraft makers with the help of Western suppliers such as GE and Honeywell
The phenomena of path dependence and lock-in can be illustrated with many examples, but one of the most vivid is the gear we use to launch things into space. Rockets are a very old invention. The Chinese have had them for something like 1,000 years. Francis Scott Key wrote about them during the War of 1812 and we sing about them at every football game. As late as the 1930s, however, they remained small, experimental, and failure-prone.
Since the early 1980s, I have had questions about an iconic picture depicting a dramatic, crimson wake vortex. This picture, with which my former NASA colleagues and I have a deep connection, provokes a telling of "the rest of the story."
