Is there such thing as a stand-alone editor for browser bookmarks files? Mine are large and unwieldy with many sub- and sub-sub-folders, they're on several different machines, and it's becoming painful keeping them synced up.
-
Bookit has some simple bookmark editing tools, but the important thing is that it does the sync operation for you.
-
Another idea: Try AM-Deadlink, a free bookmarks management program that can deal with all major browsers.
-
If you're on a Mac (you don't say) you can use BookDog. It's not free, but I find it works quite well
-
what about Google Browser sync? It requires both your google password and a Pin # before you can sync anything from the server.
-
I use Google Browser Sync and it works a treat.

There are three standout features that I really miss when I “degrade gracefully” to other modern web browsers
-
Even though Firefox has enough cool extensions to keep a software addict fed from now until next year, none of them match the upcoming features Apple has cooked up for Safari 3.0
-
these three features aren’t the end of the story for Safari 3.0. There are lots of other enhancements
-
Two of the large ones are Web Inspector
-
Instant widgets, which Apple is calling “Web Clips.”
-
Trick One: Tabs on Steroids
-
ability to drag tabs off your browser and make new windows with them
-
drag tabbed windows from one window to another
-
Safari to consolidate all open windows into one, making tabs for each
-
Trick Two: Lightbox Searching
-
Hitting Ctrl-F or Cmd-F (depending on whether you’re the Control type or the Command type) produces a nifty horizontal search area just above the browser’s status bar, and lets you enter various searches or navigate through results.
-
When you’re looking for a word or phrase, you usually want to see all instances so you can pick the right one

A p2p-based online television with a downloadable client focused on European (over 50) channels. Unfortunately, it won’t work if you’re not from one of the supported countries.
-
A directory of links to TV streams, organized by country. You might get a bit frustrated using it because many of those streams don’t work
-
-
Babelgum is similar to Joost in two ways: P2P-based content delivery, and free but ad-supported content.
-
Democracy is actually a media player which you can use to watch media files on your hard drive.
-
reetube is one of those sites that keep it simple: no downloads, no subscriptions: only lots of neatly categorized shows.
-
Guba is a combination of video sharing and video rental
-
TV Links is another one of those which fall under the “can this possibly be legal?” category. It’s a nicely organized collection of links to episodes to popular TV shows. Enjoy it while it lasts.

TiddlyWiki for the rest of us - An easy-to-use entry-level TiddlyWiki tutorial from http://www.giffmex.org/bloghome.html

Rather than scrolling up and down a long web page or word processing document, you open small chunks of information ("microcontent") written in boxes called "tiddlers."
-
A TiddlyWiki is an html file (a webpage) stuffed with special code. Think of TiddlyWiki as a bunch of 3x5 cards or scraps of paper all linked and interconnected to each other by hyperlinks and tags.
-
- The idea is that you can
- sort your information in small bite-size chunks called Tiddlers,
- link the Tiddlers by hyperlinks and by the MainMenu,
- and add custom tags as desired to bunch tiddlers together
-
- Tiddlers are linked to each other in different ways:
-
save a copy of it for free from the Internet and then edit in your computer using only your Internet browser.
TiddlyWiki - Software Review
-
This first screen shot (Figure 1) shows the basic layout of the wiki,
-
there are three main areas to the page: the left side-bar, which carries links to key pages in the wiki;
-
the central area, which contains the information items (called 'tiddlers' here)
-
the right side-bar, which has certain tools, such as the search function, and a set of tabbed lists, labelled Timeline, All, Tags and More.
-
Timeline is simply a list of 'tiddlers' produced: click on any one and the 'tiddler' pops up on the page; All, is simply all 'tiddlers' in alphabetical order; Tags are index terms associated with 'tiddlers'; and More, covers anything other than Timeline and Tags.
-
As usual with any Web-based application, movement from area to area is through the links: the difference here is that when you click on anything, what appears is another 'tiddler' on the same page, in other words, another wiki entry.
-
Creating links is simplicity itself: you move into edit mode (by clicking on Edit) and put words and phrases into double square brackets
-
If I click on one of the items on the Timeline list
-
a 'tiddler' for that item appears on the page. I can then open the item to edit it
-
words can be enboldened by using a pair of single quotes ('') before and after the word, and italicized by a par of oblique strokes (//) before and after - use both and you get bold italics.
-
A TiddlyWiki is a single html file, which is going to get to be a pretty big file after a while
