Main purpose it to have accurate time readings on capacity. Basically, run the battery empty and let rest for at least 6 hrs.

Apple does not include a utility to automatically perform a calibration.
Primarily the goal is to ensure that the microprocessor in your battery provides an accurate estimate of how much time you have left on the battery.
In a nutshell, you fully charge the battery, fully discharge it, then fully charge it again. It's unclear whether modern lithium batteries gain anything in an actual capacity perspective from this process, or if it is simply a calibration of the microprocessor for the purpose of providing accurate time estimates.
follow these steps taken from Apple's battery calibration knowledge base article:
ully charge your PowerBook's battery
Allow the battery to rest in the fully charged state for at least two hours.
Disconnect the power adapter with the computer still on and start running the computer off battery power.
until it goes to sleep.
Turn off the computer or allow it to sleep for five hours or more.
Connect the power adapter and leave it connected until the battery is fully charged again.

) and Linux, soon I was hating the idea of not being able to boot and use Linux.
So I've come up with a simple (and obvious) way to boot Linux without losing my
Mac OS X uptime.
Download one of the apps to go straight to Safe Sleep, like the widget DeepSleep or the script SuspendNow!.
If you're going to try this hint, please do so with a current backup,
and at your own risk.
Note that I tried this with my MacBook Pro and Windows XP in Boot Camp, and it
did not work.
I have rEFIt installed on my Intel MBP and can confirm
that you can boot to other oses when waking from hibernation.

Apple specifically warns against this, as OS X has no way of knowing what has
changed while it is in hibernation
If someone is having problems with a corrupted/bad image
that refuses to boot (==Mac doesn't awake from deep sleep) just enter open
firmware (turn on your mac and immediately press command+alt+o+f) and write:
setenv boot-image And then: mac-boot
