The next time you start Jack, it should give you no problems.
As a side note, its really becoming frustrating to read blogs these days...there were days of Gentoo that I miss...I always found the answer to questions that loomed me for days. People talking about restarting their linux boxes as a solution is beyond me.... One might as well go back to Windows...
Remember Ballmer shouting ad nauseam “Developers, developers, developers”? I’m sure you’ve seen the original video and even a few techno remixes. Whether he truly meant it or not, his message was correct: it’s all about developers. Any platform that doesn’t attract developers is bound to fail.
Little did I know that when I lost everything last year, I was doing research. At the time I thought it was just stupidity or bad luck or both. But now that the economy’s crashing, it turns out I’ve been out there gathering valuable tips for millions of new paupers.
Today I finally got a reply from Apple about the status of Podcaster.
Apple Rep says: Since Podcaster assists in the distribution of podcasts, it duplicates the functionality of the Podcast section of iTunes.
That's right folks, it duplicates the functionality of the desktop version of iTunes. Therefore, it was denied from sale in the app store. Although my app does allow you to listen to podcasts (like iTunes), it also allows you to download them directly to device and that is something Apple does not offer.

The landscape surrounding Ellesmere Island in the Canadian Arctic is a shadow of its former self, thanks in part to last month's departure of 55 square kilometers of the Markham Ice Shelf. Ellesmere Island anchors one of only five remaining ice shelves in the Arctic, although how long it will retain that distinction remains to be seen. Including the Markham loss, Ellesmere Island has now lost 10 times more shelf ice this summer than scientists predicted on July 30.
As you can see, UK GDP growth has been pretty stable over the last 15 years, as Gordon Brown never ceases to remind us. But whenever those 'M4' money holdings have slowed up, the economy has suffered. And the really bad news is that we've never seen anything like the recent slump in all the time the Bank of England has kept records. If the relationship between M4 money holdings and GDP growth holds, then it looks like we could be heading for as much as a 2% year-on-year slide in annual GDP growth. Very nasty!
Hydrogen is only a source of energy if it can be taken in its pure form and reacted with another chemical, such as oxygen. But all the hydrogen on Earth, except that in hydrocarbons, has already been oxidized, so none of it is available as fuel. If you want to get plentiful unbound hydrogen, the closest place it can be found is on the surface of the Sun; mining this hydrogen supply would be quite a trick. After the Sun, the next closest source of free hydrogen would be the atmosphere of Jupiter. Jupiter is surrounded by radiation belts so intense that they are deadly to humans and electronics. It also has a massive gravity field that would severely impair hydrogen export operations. These would also be complicated by the 2.5-year Jupiter-to-Earth flight transit time (during which any liquid hydrogen launched would probably boil away), and the fact that upon re-entry at Earth, the imagined hydrogen shipping capsule would face heat loads about eight times higher than those withstood by a space shuttle returning from orbit.
What does “closing an application” mean to you? To me it means that the entirety of that application is unloaded. Apparently Apple chose a more beatnik approach to this question, adding services that continue running long after the red X has been pressed. In fact, iTunes secretly installed three permanently memory resident programs: iPodHelper, AppleMobileDeviceService and iTunesHelper. For the computer un-initiated those might be all you’d discover running. But there’s more. Installed in the hidden service layer of Windows, we find Apples Bonjour network service. If we look for it, we even find installed a separate Apple Software Update application (despite us twice having told iTunes we don’t want to update anything, ever). Poor suck-o-meter that only goes to 10. This one goes to 11.
Starting at line 7495, pacifico gives some details about what happened:
Many of you may be aware of the current storm looming in the distance. The general chan sphere is being thrown increasingly into chaos by the spambots of Anontalk. 12chan is being spammed to hell. 420 /b/ is a radioactive zone. 99chan is down. 7chan? Have you seen their front page? They told their users to peacefully, and LEGALLY report anontalk.com to their isp. As of 11 pm Eastern Standard Time, pings to 7chan.org have ceased to resolve.
To put it simply, our usually peaceful coexistence has been threatened by a hostile and outside force that is hellbent on our mutual destruction. If there was any shred of a doubt, it should be gone now. We knew about this months ago, and yet nothing was done. And by our inaction we have allowed the problem to grow and grow until it has become something that not even the full combined force of the chans can keep at bay.
The hordes of /b/ raided anontalk a few days ago, in the thousands. Flooding, spamming, all a just recompense for the months of faggotry endured at the hands of anontalk. But nothing prepared them for what awaited, not even Ackbar could have foreseen the trap we had stumbled into. Anontalk.com was the most exploit ridden, malware spewing website that I have seen for as long as I can remember. The effects were swift and brutal. Nothing stood in their way, whether it be firefox, linux, peerguardian or whatever the skiddies used to cover their tracks.
It had come down to the final showdown, and all our overwhelming numbers? they meant nothing. The newfags only served to add minions to the anontalk swarm, bots which were used to crush down 4chan in a fiery orgy of DDOS. Those who escaped fled, stricken with terror, shouting and spamming nonsensically for eyes and ears which remained closed. Few cared or bothered to read the dire warnings, until it was too late.
The worm which they loaded into the newfags computers is a versatile sonuvabitch. It spreads, copies itself, and randomizes its cor

The fall in the dollar’s value was one of the triggers of the oil price rise. Three other triggers contributed heavily too: the greed-driven speculation of oil brokers and hedge funds, the Iraq war and the new Iranian oil bourse that caused a further decline in the dollar, raising oil prices even more, like a self-sustaining upward spiral. Now add a fourth trigger: the increasing probability of some kind of strike against Iran. Estimates are that the Iraq war alone trebled the cost of oil. By May the world had spent an extra $6 trillion on higher energy prices alone since the Iraq war. Else the price would have been $40 " even less but for greedy speculators and hedge funds. Oil has been trading on two dollar-denominated oil bourses, NYMEX and IPE, both privately owned by US citizens. They play a huge role in determining crude oil prices. The New York Mercantile Exchange Inc (NYMEX) was established more than 135 years ago. London’s International Petroleum Exchange (IPE), now Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), was established in 1980. NYMEX “pioneered the development of energy futures and options contracts in 1978 as [a] means of bringing price transparency and risk management to this vital market.” This is precisely what opened the door to greed-driven speculation that has driven the price of crude unnaturally high. “IPE is one of the world’s largest energy futures and options exchanges. Its flagship commodity, Brent Crude, is a world benchmark for oil prices…” Brent is British North Sea, not OPEC.
The number of children who arrive at primary school unable to speak in full sentences is rising, according to a government review which today reveals that 7% of children now have a serious communication problem.
A rise in "home-related" speech problems, shown by children who are not encouraged by their parents to speak from an early age, is fuelling the increase, according to the Tory MP John Bercow, who has carried out a review for the government.
Yes, television is enjoyable! In modern world, TV is one of the main sources of entertainment. Watching television is an experience shared by the vast majority of children and adults. It is convenient, inexpensive, available, and attractive.
It may be hard to believe that watching TV can damage our health, especially the health of kids, and disturb daily life, but there are many reasons that this is true. A number of studies have demonstrated negative effects of long TV hours.
I’ve been using Python for maybe 4 or 5 years now. On the whole, the experience has been very positive: big pluses include the excellent (although rather stylistically disjoint) standard library; built-in collection types and list comprehensions; the experience, at least, of finding that duck typing actually “sort of works”; and the clean syntax. However, the “elegant” indentation-based scoping for which it’s so famous is, all told, a very bad idea, regardless of what die hard Pythonistas may tell you.
Let’s start with a consideration of syntax — the most visceral feature of a language. Syntax is the most immediate feature of a language, and you know right from the start whether or not you like the feel of it. User interfaces appear secretly everywhere, from the symbols chosen to represent particular quantities in algebra to the syntactic sugar aspects of a programming language. Some experienced coders, especially those who know several languages well, may dismiss syntax-worrying as pointless and superficial, but I’m not so sure: a good syntax makes it not only fast to code up common tasks, but it will also emphasise the structure of an algorithm at a glance and be based on a few consistently applied core concepts. This is a lot more than lily gilding. Strictly, I can do anything in any Turing complete language, so the whole point of a good language is that it makes code for its target tasks readable, elegant and extensible: syntax plays a major role here. Python does well from this point of view: you can see right away that this is a language which doesn’t render your own code unreadable when you go for a whole week without reading it. Contrast Lisp or Perl, or PHP: all serious languages suffering from serious syntactic defects (okay, so the most serious is the least heavily used… but that’s got a lot to do with it having the worst syntax).
Flash back to a little less than 12 months ago.In Iowa, the leader board featured a former Mayor of New York, a former Governor of Massachusetts, and the DA from Law & Order. In New Hampshire, the outlook was similar: Mitt Romney was at the front of the pack, followed distantly by Rudy Giuliani.
By all accounts, John McCain's presidential hopes were dead in the water.
FEW people, other than scholars, will be familiar with the story of the Cambridge don whose study of China’s scientific history helped to change the West’s appraisal of a civilisation once thought hopelessly backward. By the time Joseph Needham died in 1995, he had published 17 volumes of his “Science and Civilisation in China” series, including several that he wrote entirely on his own.
The Chinese began printing 600 years before Johannes Gutenberg introduced the technique in Germany. They built the first chain drive 700 years before the Europeans. And they made use of a magnetic compass at least a century before the first reference to it appeared elsewhere. So why, in the middle of the 15th century, did this advanced civilisation suddenly cease its spectacular progress?
So powerful has Needham’s contribution been to the historiography of Chinese science that this conundrum is still known as “The Needham Question”. Even the Chinese themselves use it: the phrase in Mandarin is Li Yuese nanti.
