Professor Kremer talked about Alexis de Tocqueville's views of slavery as he toured the U.S. in 1831. Kremer said that Tocqueville's insistent questions wherever he traveled may have added to the slavery-abolitionist tensions of the time. Tocqueville believed there would be a war between blacks and whites.
