Seth's Blog: Education at the crossroads
Imagine a school that's built around free, abundant learning. And compare it to one that's focused on scarce, expensive schooling. Or dream up your own combination. My recent MBA program, for example, was scarce (only 9 people got to do it) and it was free and focused on learning.
Just because something is free doesn't meant there isn't money to be made. Someone could charge, for example, for custom curricula, or focused tutoring, or for a certified (scarce) degree. When a million people are taking your course, you only need 1% to pay you to be happy indeed.
Eight combinations of the three choices are available and my guess is that all eight will be tried. If I were going to wager, I'd say that the free, abundant learning combination is the one that's going to change the world.

Every teacher has a blog if they want it. Lots of student work on blogs as well.

Once Upon A Teacher: From PLN to P-L-A-N for Moving our School Forward
Where are we now, in the last half of the year? We have over 50 blogs on our faculty. (Which can be found on our website) My principal blogs, our instructional coaches blog, we have a blog for new teachers, grade level teams blogging, resource teacher blogs, many classroom blogs, school mascot blog, a conference blog and a teacher recognition blog. It's a blog BONANZA! Teachers are also using wikis to share their work.
How does this all pertain to my PLN and the PLN of some of my colleagues? Almost EVERYTHING we learned to do was due to our PLN. We techno-evangelized and the work is being embraced on our faculty. Now I realize that this is not the case for many, but I think it sends an important message that CHANGE IS POSSIBLE!
Gaining Mobility

"Mobile University provides a standardized, one-on-one device that mirrors the ThinkPad program and all manner of campus services," said Crouch. "This pilot gives us a chance to work through the logistics."
It's likely students don't mind being the guinea pigs in the process, Swofford said. "This is not a luxury device; it's their whole life."

Some Thoughts About School 2.0 --Chris Lehmann
-
It's really not about the computers. School 2.0 is older than that. School 2.0 is the tradition of Dewey. School 2.0 is born out of the idea that active, engaged, constructivist learning will lead to active, engaged students and people.
School 2.0

An alarming reality for K12: Despite the radical transformation of data storage and information access, there has been no associated transformation of K12 education. Alarmingly, there may be no sector of society where technology has had less impact. That's because K12 education persists in operating on the premise that to have school, you must physically co-locate teachers, students and curriculum materials.
