As the guardians of a rich cultural tradition and history makers in their own right, the stories of these organizers, activists, thinkers and community leaders cannot and should not be left absent from the history of Indigenous peoples in the 20th century For centuries the American public at large has gazed upon indigenous women through a Eurocentric worldview, thereby completely missing the centrality of women in indigenous communities.
