As Dr Kevin Boyd, his specialist at the Royal Marsden hospital predicted, the drug is having a dramatic effect on Ross’s cancer, multiple myeloma. His paraprotein levels – which indicate the rate of spread of the disease – have come down from 67 to five, which his partner, Wendy Forbes-Newbigin, calls “little short of a miracle”.

Rewards for pregnant women who quit smoking - The Times 17th October 2008
Mothers-to-be are to be offered gift vouchers and beauty treatments to encourage them to give up smoking, the Telford and Wrekin NHS trust in Shropshire announced.
The trust has been cautioned that the move could be seen by some as rewarding bad behaviour.

Catholic school bans girls from having cervical cancer jabs - The Telegraph 24th September 2008
A Roman Catholic school has barred 12 and 13-year-old pupils from being immunized against cervical cancer on its premises.
Governors of St Monica's RC High School in Prestwich, Bury, Greater Manchester, reached the decision even though the vaccination programme has been approved by the Catholic hierarchy in Britain.
