The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (Nice) yesterday published updated guidelines on the treatment of depression calling for extra focus on talking therapy, especially cognitive behaviour therapy, for depression and less focus on drugs. It also warned GPs to be more alert to depression in people with chronic health problems, amongst whom the condition is three times more common than in the general population. "

Sexually abused children in postcode lottery for therapy - The Times 20th July 2009
Children who suffer traumatic sexual abuse are not being given the chance to recover because of a shortage of therapy services, a charity says.
Each year at least 55,000 victims of sex abuse face behavioural and mental health problems because of a postcode lottery in access to therapy, according to the NSPCC. There is only one support programme for every 25,000 children in the UK and many areas have no therapeutic provision at all for abused children.
