Each week Babs Blaine, 83, works between six and 10 hours at Victoria Central Health Centre's tea bar in Wallasey. "

IMPROVED sanitation in Wirral hospitals is thought to be the reason behind a fall in the number of healthcare-related illnesses such as MRSA and C.difficile after figures were released yesterday.\n\nAccording to the latest results from the Health Protection Agency (HPA), Arrowe Park and Clatterbridge hospitals recorded 56 cases of bacterial infection C.diff between April and June compared to 81 cases during the same quarter last year - a decrease of almost 30%.

The project is being carried out at Miriam Medical Centre, in Laird Street, Birkenhead, and at Parkfield Medical Centre in Sefton Road, New Ferry.

A NEW air ambulance covering Wirral and neighbouring areas is taking to the skies.
The helicopter will reach every part of the region in 10 minutes and get people to hospital within 20 minutes of a 999 call, saving hundreds of lives.

The levels are in contrast to a new report that showed nationally, more than 45,000 NHS workers call in sick each day - around one and a half times the absence rate seen in the private sector.

NHS Wirral has funded surgeries to launch and operate a patient care messaging service, which can reduce the number of people who do not turn up to their appointments.
