NHS chiefs: Big drop in St Helens swine flu cases - St Helens Star 24th August 2009

REPORTED cases of swine flu across St Helens and the North West have fallen for the second week running.

Across England the number of cases fell to from 30,000 to 25,000 while in St Helens the GP consultation rate in St Helens for flu-like illness fell markedly from 374 per 100,000 population to 88.4.

Family wins inquest three years after mum Irene Seddon's death - St Helens Star 5th June 2009

A FAMILY has won their long battle to have an inquest held into the death of their mother whose health deteriorated after she became dehydrated at Whiston Hospital.

Irene Seddon died five weeks after being admitted to the hospital suffering from a water infection shortly before Christmas 2005.

Hospital to get GP surgery - St Helens Star 17th March 2009

HEALTH chiefs have given the go-ahead for a GPs’ surgery to open at the new St Helens Hospital later this year.

Sherdley Medical Centre will offer care to patients from Thatto Heath, Marshalls Cross and the surrounding area.

NHS St Helens says the new practice will be launched in September and offer more than 60 hours a week of medical care.

ST HELENS Hospital has introduced a rapid new HIV testing system that sees high risk patients given results within 30 minutes.\n\nPatients have a mouth swab or finger prick blood sample taken before being given the results within half an hour.\n\nNormally, a patient would have to wait a day before getting the results.
