Thousands of West Lancs people missing out on dental care - Ormskirk Advertiser 4th December 2008
THOUSANDS of West Lancashire people have stopped going to see a dentist since many local ones went private.
New statistics show that since the Government’s introduction of the dental contract in April 2006, nearly 10,000 fewer adults, and 1,300 fewer children in the Central Lancashire Primary Care Trust area were seen by an NHS dentist.

Ashleigh Cave, 12, has been bed-bound in Alder Hey children’s hospital since October after collapsing during a family trip to London.
Figures show increase in HIV patient numbers in North West - Ormskirk Advertiser 27th November 2008
LATEST statistics reveal there has been a 10% increase in people needing HIV care in the North West.
The figures, from the Health Protection Agency, show that in 2007, some 584 people were newly diagnosed with the virus in the region.

ORMSKIRK’S hospital trust paid out more than £4million in medical negligence pay-outs last year – more than 60% up on the previous 12 months.
According to figures released by the Department of Health, the bill for blunders such as wrong diagnosis, botched surgery and delays during childbirth at Southport and Ormskirk NHS Trust reached £4.02m.
