I recently had the misfortune to suffer a heart attack at my home in Bury.
I was taken to the Coronary Care Unit at Faifield Hospital and later moved to Manchester Royal Infirmary where a team was waiting to carry out an angioplasty procedure (a tube inserted into a coronary artery) after which I was returned returned to the CCU at Fairfield.

LETTERS are being sent out to local schoolgirls to ensure that they are fully protected against the threat of cervical cancer.
NHS Bury is issuing the reminders to the girls and their parents that the third HPV (human papillomavirus) injection is now due. Three doses of the vaccine are essential to guard against the cancer.

Mike Harling, of Worcester Close, Bury, saw both his parents battle against different forms of cancer.
His father Jack underwent surgery for bowel cancer but died in 1982 at the age of 63. Twenty years later, his mother Mona, aged 81, died just five days after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

Building work started in August 2007 to erect the new Radcliffe Primary Care Centre on the corner of Church Street West and Bridgefield Street.

I AM writing to you to praise the NHS in general and Fairfield Hospital and Tottington Health Centre in particular.
Unfortunately, the NHS all too often receives negative publicity for its failings but rarely gets the praise it deserves for its achievements. From our personal experience my family are very grateful for the high standard of medical care available in our area.

ARCHIVES from Prestwich Asylum have been used to create a unique history lesson for high school pupils.
The asylum opened in 1851 and eventually became Prestwich Hospital, before closing in 1994.
The Bury New Road centre now provides specialist mental health and substance misuse services to the wider North West.
