Thousands of terminally ill patients suffering from cancer of the blood will receive life-extending treatment after a landmark pricing deal between a drug manufacturer and the NHS.
A British company is offering Revlimid, a £40,000-a-year treatment for multiple myeloma, free of charge to the health service for any patients who derive long-term benefit from it. Celgene proposes that the NHS funds the once-a-day pill for two years, after which it will cover any costs for as long as a patient requires treatment.
