Marshall Alexander - Paper Engineer

I am a Dutch paper engineer, based in Arnhem, and my work mainly focuses on the creation of papertoys. I either create completely new characters from scratch or I transform existing characters into papermodels. My speciality is one-piece papertoys, models that consist of a single flat piece of paper, which by intricate folding is transformed into a 3-dimensional model. I also create more complex templates consisting of several parts that are glued together to construct the final model. I've have done commissioned work for the toy industry, for promotional purposes and for books and magazines. Growing up in the seventies and eighties, my personal work is heavily inspired by retro design, videogames, movies, bright plastic toys and TV cartoons. Most of this work can be downloaded for free from my site. So get your knives and glue out, download some of the models and start building. Enjoy!

Craft/tool station with wall organizer - Craftynest

This project is what Elizabeth would call “finding crap on the curb and making something fabulous.” I found this mint green railing (from a crib? shelves?) in a pile of debris. Add galvanized wall pocket planters (on clearance at Jo-Ann for $1.50 each), daisy hooks (thanks, Kristi), spice rack ($3.50 at a thrift store), paper/pen bin (thanks, Jim), dowels and wire for hooks (Freecycle), and I’ve got a cheap craft organizing solution. A power strip and a salvaged bench vice (thanks, dad) attached to the rolling toolbox make it complete. Can’t wait to use it!

LollyChops: The Butterfly Project...

A few weeks ago I shared a pic of some butterfly punch-outs I had done from a Pottery Barn catalog (it was a really colorful picture of some towels all stacked together). I had seen a picture that Ali Edwards made of butterflies all lined up and punched from many different colors of paper (which gave me some serious inspiration in the butterfly department). I decided that I wanted to do something similar but with a different spin!

I started working on this little project Saturday afternoon. I seem to have loads ideas that do not always turn out as I had envisioned them... so I figured I had better test carefully to make sure this was going to work out!

How to Make Gingerbread Houses Using Graham Crackers - wikiHow

Gingerbread houses are a fantastic Christmas tradition that the whole family can help make. Some of the work is fiddly, but young hands can definitely add the decorative elements. Make ahead and put it out on the table or in a decorative corner for Christmas Day.

How to Make Paper Star Ornaments « Hinzpired

I came up with the idea for these star ornaments a couple of years ago after seeing some instructions for making a star book. They are very simple to make. Last year my daughter and I made a bunch of them and hung them up in our front window from the beginning of Advent until Valentine’s Day.

Bleu Arts: Felt Balls from Yarn Scrap

I have been knitting predominantly with wool and alpaca yarns lately. It occurred to me that I do not have to throw away all those little scraps of yarn because they will felt. So, I started collecting a pile of loose yarn scraps to make into little felt balls. They can become beads, cat toys, or whatever you like.

Multi Strand Finger Loop Braiding

In this Instructable, I'm going to teach you how to make Finger Loop Braids. With this technique you can make braids with just your hands that have 10 or more strands each. They can be used for anything. Bracelets, chokers, belts, hat bands, as trim on clothing, or furniture... If you need a strong lacing, a finger loop braid will multiply the strength of your string/rope by 10. To make the videos easy to follow, I made the braids out of rope.

How to clean a hardshell gourd

Hardshell gourds have been used as food and beverage containers, and art pieces for centuries. They are often referred to as "nature's pottery" due to their beautiful variety of shapes and hardy uses. The creative crafting possibilities of hardshell gourds are endless; from bowls and cups (mate gourds, used for drinking yerba mate), to purses, jewelry, Christmas ornaments, lampshades, jewelry boxes, bird houses, tribal penis shields, and even a wide variety of musical instruments. The list goes on forever, only limited by your imagination.
