Theora scales from postage stamp to HD resolution, and is
considered particularly competitive at low bitrates.
It is in the same class as MPEG-4/DiVX, and like
    the Vorbis audio codec
it has lots of room for improvement as encoder technology
    develops.

Theora is in full public release as of November 3, 2008.
The bitstream format for Theora I was frozen Thursday, 2004
July 1. All bitstreams encoded since that date will remain compatible
    with future releases.

Webkit for SWT | Eclipse Blinki

    • WebKit for SWT (ver. 0.5)

The first WebKit browser for Java

WebKit for SWT (ver. 0.5) is an
embeddable Java™ WebKit browser component developed
by Genuitec. This component can be used in the development
of a wide range of Java SWT applications that require
integration of rich HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript and Flash
      content and functionality.

      WebKit for SWT is
being developed to serve as a technology platform for our
OSS mobile web initiative, Eclipse "Blinki" Mobile Web
DevKit and in the research of a new generation of
network-based developer tools. To begin using WebKit for
      SWT:

      1. Download WebKit for SWT (11.2 Mb)

      2. Unzip the webkit-swt-0.5.0.zip to your system

      3. Open the <install dir>/bin directory and execute
runExampleBrowser.bat to see this framework in action

Programming languages for the Java Virtual Machine JVM

This is a list of programming languages for the Java virtual machine aside of Java itself. It comprises about 240 different systems. It is a mix of experimental, research oriented implementations and of commercial ones. The source code of a program executed in the Java VM has to have a syntax different to Java to be included in this list.

EclipseZone - Eclipse - a tale of two VMs (and many classloaders)

  • When starting off with Eclipse plugin development or rich client
platform development, you're more than likely to run into issues like ClassNotFoundException
or problems with the Java command line and properties like java.endorsed.dirs.

Most often, these problems arise because many Eclipse developers
    don't
realise the magic that lets Eclipse do its work. Amongst these are the
fact that there's actually two processes under the covers, and that
each bundle has its own classloader. Once you understand how these fit
together, debugging problems may be somewhat easier.

Eclipse Forms: Rich UI for Rich Client Applications

  • Spice up your rich client with rich user experience using
Eclipse Forms. Written as a thin layer on top of SWT, Eclipse
Forms allow you to achieve the Web look in your desktop
applications without using the embedded browser. This allows you
to retain full control of the widgets in the UI and to maintain
portability across all operating systems Eclipse already runs on.
This article will take you from baby steps to advanced topics of
the rich user interface experience of Eclipse Forms.

Java Anti-Patterns

  • Java Anti-Patterns

This page collects some bad code that may not look so obiously bad for beginners. Beginners often struggle with the language
syntax. They also have little knowledge about the standard JDK class library and how to make the best use of it. In fact I have
collected all examples from everyday junior code. I have modified the original code to give it example character and such that it
    highlights the problems.

  • Perf4J is a set of utilities for calculating and displaying perfomance statistics for Java code. For developers who are familiar with logging frameworks such as log4j or java.util.logging, an analogy helps to describe Perf4J:

    Perf4J is to System.currentTimeMillis() as log4j is to System.out.println()

Transaction strategies: Understanding transaction pitfalls

  • Transaction processing should achieve a high degree of data integrity
and consistency. This article, the first in a series
on developing an effective transaction strategy for the Java platform, introduces
common transaction pitfalls that can prevent you from reaching this goal. Using code examples from the Spring Framework and the Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) 3.0 specification, series author Mark Richards explains these all-too-common mistakes.

IntelliJ Idea key scheme for Eclipse

  • Intellij Idea key scheme for Eclipse

    I joined http://sonoasystems.com/
and working on eclipse plugin development. I had to switch to eclipse
from Intellij Idea, to take advantage of eclipse PDE support. I didn't
find any key scheme of intellij idea distributed with eclipse. So I
created one myself. If anybody interested, you can download it here:

    sources
    and plugin

Drop the plugin jar in eclipse/plugins folder and restart eclipse. Now
in preferences dialog under General > Keys you can find
    "Intellij Idea" key scheme.
