Obviously, Earnhardt, Jr. has settled into to his new home at Hendrick Motorsports. He was the dominate force on the superspeedways earlier in the decade, and he is beginning to display that same ascendancy with his new team. The performance could not be any better and Earnhardt, Jr. looks primed and ready to conquer his second Daytona 500 victory. More importantly, the confidence that may have eluded him over the past couple of years has returned.

The stranglehold that Chevrolet has at the restrictor plate tracks this decade is astounding. Ever since 2001, a Chevrolet driver has won every race at Daytona and Talladega with the exception of four races. That is 24 out of 28 races, which is roughly 86 percent. The 2002 Daytona 500, Ward Burton won in a Dodge, the 2003 Pepsi 400 at Daytona, Greg Biffle won in a Ford, the 2005 UAW-Ford 500 at Talladega, Dale Jarrett won in a Ford, and the 2007 Pepsi 400 at Daytona, Jamie McMurray won in a Ford.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series heads to Sin City for the third race of the 2008 season. With a bit of luck, Mother Nature, and the track, will be in a better mood this weekend. Last week, it appeared as if Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson had picked up where they left off in 2007, but Carl Edwards made a bold statement by passing both drivers in the latter stages of the Auto Club 500 en route to his eighth career victory.

While most of the series will enjoy next weekend off, Kyle Busch will be in Nashville, Tennessee competing in the Nationwide Series event

Despite the fact that Kyle Busch suffered through an excruciating day at Martinsville, he still gets the nod as the number one driver in the rankings. It was the first time all season long in which Busch really encountered handling woes. He is typically a stout short track racer, so his difficulties at Martinsville are a little surprising. However, there is no reason to believe that Busch and the 18 team will begin a free fall. They are still the team to beat in 2008. Busch fell from first to fifth in the Sprint Cup championship standings
Roush vs. Gibbs In The Texas Showdown
The 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup season has featured two races at tracks that are 1.5-miles in length. At Las Vegas, Roush Fenway Racing driver Carl Edwards dominated and won while Greg Biffle and Matt Kenseth enjoyed solid showings. Meanwhile, Joe Gibbs Racing driver Kyle Busch won the pole for that race and ran among the top five for most of the event. Tony Stewart was running sixth when he abruptly cut a tire.
