zephyrprince | Three Very Important Glee vid recs
Omg, anyone at all familiar with Glee should definitely watch these two short vids by gotlostinyoureyes. The first is a a Su character piece, "Dangerous," and the second focuses on Brittany, "Gimmie More." It has literally been a struggle for me to stop watching them on repeat to write this even though I've been obsessed for several days. I really think I might do a commentary for vid_commentary on the Brittany one because of the way it makes something out of virtually nothing with a tertiary character. Stringing these clips together forces you to look at her, which a lot of people might not ever otherwise do. Plus, it's awesome that the song is "Gimme More," indicating that she (a long with so many of us in Glee fandom) wants more Brittany in the show! In "Dangerous," I love the way she plays with shots of them looking, which is a theme shared with the last recced vid below ... which is for "I See You" by sci3ncegeek. This made me start weeping in the middle of work, which admittedly I am apt to do, but still....incredible. It really captures all the different stresses circulating in the club.

Doctor Who television special, Waters of Mars. I actually enjoyed this way more than I expected to even after the first half of the program. It really dug down deep into the capricious megalomania of the doctor that I first became aware of through flummery's reading of the character in "Handlebars."

I always say that it takes a really good vid to get me interested in watching a show I'm unfamiliar with. Most of the time, I only watch ones for things I've already consumed because that's really the only way they make sense at all, but today I really have to rec this one that's going around. I've only saw one episode of Twin Peaks in my Television Studies class a year and a half ago, but this vid really captures how fucking creepy that show is. I really would like to see the whole thing. Plus the song is Kate Bush, which, of course, is irresistible to me...

Beautiful by castorsfate. Memoirs of a Geisha. For me, the first layer of meaning in castorfate’s “Beautiful” is a thesis about self-worth and, unsurprisingly, beauty. Visually, the clips used in this vid alternate between footage of Sayuri as a child and her as an adult after she becomes a Geisha. The lyrics coupled with these images seem to want to say that her value is not contingent on dressing up in a certain way, wearing specific make up, or putting on a performance. [more]
