cupidsbow: Songvid Oddities
There really are some stunning songvids out there; it's always so hard to pick. My current faves are tearful_eye's Souvenirs (fandom = Life) and aycheb's Silence (fandom = Minority Report). I love the way both vids use intercutting and effects, and the way the unusual song choices give the vids an unexpected depth and poignancy. They both just blow my socks off. That's the kind of visual art I want to be able to make one day.

Terminator Salvation: Fading by bananainpyjamas. Marcus/John. I loved this movie and loved these characters and have been waiting for a kickass vid about them. Star Trek (2009): What You Feel by suzvoy. Ensemble, so lovely. True Blood: Da Bomb by dreamrequiem. Lafayette & Jason. I still haven't gotten around to watching this show, but this vid is a ridiculous amount of fun.

Beethoven's Fifth Gold Digger by absolutedestiny. This vid is one of the most gorgeous pieces of editing I've ever seen: brilliant beatwork at its finest. I have never given a damn about Scarlett O'Hara (pardon the pun), but I could watch this vid over and over again. It is a stunning combination of impeccable technique and tongue-in-cheek gender commentary.

I've stumbled across a couple completely adorable Fred & Ginger fanvids recently! Love You Madly by roseytrebles. "Happiness" [Astaire/Rogers Films] by icepixie. They Can't Take That Away... by duckmilk productions. Do You Love Me (Now That I Can Dance) by StrictlyTaboo. Support For My Argument by vespersaw. Also Caught by vespersaw, featuring not only Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, but also William Powell and Myrna Loy, and Olivia de Havilland and Errol Flynn... *swoon* (I must interject here that never in a million years did I ever expect to find fanvids including footage of Captain Blood and Robin Hood aside from the fantastic ode to Yuletide one.)

"Ong Bak is a Thai martial arts film. The fighting in it is a lot more rough and violent than most martial arts films. The goody is very good (I think his original motive is to retrieve a sacred statue of the Buddha for his humble village) but his fighting is completely unscrupulous - bashing people on the head with bits of metal and so on. I personally think it's great.

Vogue by sockkpuppett. 300. Gorgeous and hilarious. An appreciation/viewing of the movie is not necessary for this vid. It's magazine-shiny. It really is. It answers the question of why there are so many shirtless and pantless men wearing capes in this film. The use of colour in this vid is fantastic. (Additionally, the red/white/blue lens thing coupled with the ridiculous Greco-Roman costume drama is glorious from a French/American political/historical/cultural perspective.) Here It Goes Again by sisabet. Stargate: Atlantis. This vid is so much fun. It's set to a gloriously fun song and it matches it. It's filled with magnificent faces and jokes. It's the epic and true story of John's love for Rodney. It is amazing.

Battlestar Galactica: Like My Very Own Blood by jarrow. Adama & Starbuck. There's nothing more frakked up than family. I actually gasped out loud while watching this video. It's incredibly powerful and disturbing and fascinating and original. By the end, my heart was beating so fast. Looks like there are still plenty of new things to say about this show. The Brøken: that brøken day by kiki_miserychic. This video is hypnotizing and unsettling. I couldn't look away. Some really striking overlays & cuts. I felt a little psychotic afterwards.
