"Vid recs, absurdist edition! Christian Bale + Zefron = NO = yay! “Bet on It” meets Newsies for a ludicrous Disneygasm. There is no way that the execution of “Harry Potter meets Snakes on a Plane” could ever have topped the concept, but my, does Dualbunny’s vid give it a run for its money. I have at best a tepid tolerance for the first four Harry Potter films, and neutral feelings about HP vidding, but this vid won me over. I have feelings about the first Twilight movie. However, this vid has made me see that, deep inside this… this… I’m trying to find a synonym for “black hole” that doesn’t have disturbingly yoni-like connotations — this abominable snowman of a movie, there is actually a pretty hilarious film. From Cappy, “All Apologies”. Ah, Nirvana and Edward… a match made in heaven. I cried happy emo tears.

True Blood. Beautiful, haunting and gorgeous Godric vid. The song works perfectly. I tend to prefer faster vids, but the atmosphere in this is just brilliant. death eaters on road to awe by jmor27. Harry Potter. The Death Eaters' stories. I've loved this since forever, it may actually be the first vid I ever fell in love with. It shows the other side, the bad guys, what of their story, beautiful and desperate, doom-laden, because you know how it all ends...I love the story it tells, the snapshots from their lives, grinding them down, tied up in these themes of family, love and death. slow down gandhi by obsessive24. "Oh my God. *spazzes* Everyone needs to go to Layha's site and download "Santa Fe." It's a Harry Potter vid set to the song "Santa Fe" from Newsies. Yes, Newsies. It's a beautiful song, and a beautiful vid, and she mixed Harry Potter with fucking Newsies and I'm about five seconds from running down to my car, getting the soundtrack, and dancing around my room to "Carryin' The Banner" because the vid is just that amazing and you all need to download it.

This vid is just worth a rec. I love the fact the musical piece is entitled, "Harry and Hermione" and it's on the Half Blood Prince movie soundtrack of all things! Considering the way things go in that movie/book, it's funny that they snuck in a piece for H/Hr. Anyway, the vid encompasses Movies 1-5 with audio from Movie 6.
The song is an instrumental piece with scenes and bits of audio from the movies in the vid as well. It's a really nice tribute to their journey through the years. It could be taken as a friendship vid too. It's beautiful either way.
It's by vidder SVEvenstar and the vid was put up July 20. If you like H/Hr, it honestly would be a shame if you haven't seen this vid yet.

Death Shall Have No Dominion by littleblackbow (chibitoaster). Dark Shadows was a supernatural soap opera from the 60's that takes place in a fishing village in Maine and the Collinwood estate that overlooks the town. It has a cult following among many of us who love vampires, werewolves, ghosts, etc. Barnabas Collins is the vampire in the series. Harry is in the role of Vicky Winters whose point of view the series is from for the most part. The music is Farewell by Apocalyptica. Media used: Pen and ink, video. I've never seen Dark Shadows, but I loved the setting of the old manor house in this crossover - I thought really complimented the HP world. She put so much work into this, and the song is a perfect fit for the tone/mood of the piece.

VID REC Harry Potter Next Generation by missphoenix05. Song: "New Divide" by Linkin Park. Gen. PG-13. I have no clue about the genesis of this saying, but we have a rather silly saying "A bear must have died" (sorry, Beth!) which is used when something very rare happens. So, one must have moved on to the better snow desert or forest because here I am, reccing a vid. I don't even like Linking Park to begin with, and I have no idea what films are used for footage. And I don't like it when the *ideal* fantasy versions of characters in my head are tried to be replaced by "some stupid actors." But there's something in this vid, apart from it being very smoothly and skilfully done, that made me watch it to the end, then repeat, and now recall it fondly. It made me smile! They fit, those actors. Try it!

Okay, I've seen a few Harry Potter/Skins crossover vids before that were okay, but this one is just perfect! The pairing is Ron/Emily and it's so sweet. Even if you haven't seen Skins, this is totally worth watching! *flails* Plus, there's plenty of Hermione-bashing, which I know is good enough for a lot of you, lol.
Emily spots a hopeless Ron trying to flirt with an unsuspecting Hermione, and decides to try and help him with his dilemma. The two become very close - So close in fact, that one begins to want more than just a friendship.

Secondly, a vid: Beautiful Struggle by [info]nightchik. It's a gen vid, not a shippy one, and I'm not sure how to describe it because I totally don't have a language for talking about vids. I just liked it.

Sophie's Secret LJ - Double Vids recs
Bachelorette by Kusoyaro. Adolescence of Utena. Gorgeous imagery. (I'm a sucker for femslashy women with swords) Inspired me to watch the movie, don't. The TV series, on the other hand, is the awesomeness the vid promises, if not quite as pretty. Bachelorette by Obsessive24. Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Takes the gender symbolism of the show one step further. This has somewhat ruined the previous vid for me because the lyrics are just so perfect, from the first line "I'm a fountain of blood, in the shape of a girl". For me this song brings up a lot of the same ideas about gender as both of these shows, with the ambiguity between victim and lover, between passivity and power. The Boy Was a Puppet by Fabella. Harry Potter. Self sacrifice and Harry (up to film 4) All That I Am by LithiumDoll. Supernatural. Self sacrifice and the Winchesters. These are both fairly similar vids about self sacrifice and angst (there's some differences in the way the narrative flows but I lack the artsiness to articulate them :)). I saw the Harry Potter one first and I think I like it a little more (it's so pretty) but the SPN one managed to win me over with it's tasty angst even though at the time I hadn't seen much of the show. Handlebars by Flummery. New Who. The tenth Doctor. Handlebars by deejay. Iron Man. Iron Man. These are again fairly similar vids, but in some ways they're similar characters, their use of their overwhelming power both endearingly gleeful and disturbingly sociopathic. I like the Doctor Who one more, but I think the canon suits it better (though Iron Man does have actual bikes and Americans :)).
