Interview with Con Kolivas part 2: his effort to improve Linux performance on the desktop
I think the kernel developers at large haven't got the faintest idea just how big the problems in userspace are. It is a very small brave minority that are happy to post to lkml, and I keep getting users telling me on IRC, in person, and via my own mailing list, what their problems are. And they've even become fearful of me, even though I've never viewed myself as a real kernel developer.

Nav4all - nav4all.co.uk
Free at present. Works OK but awkward user interface and locked up a few times on my K750. Nice selection of voices.
Wisepilot - wisepilot.com
The best - even has 3D maps. But not free except for the 5-day trial
Navigon - navigon.com (you need the free Java edition)
Looks good but I haven't used it on-the-road because it seems to lock up too easily.
Amaze - amazegps.com
I use this daily. It's free and reliable. Sadly only 4 digit postcodes but the address search works fine. -

Bug 509179 - Various UI changes for a better HIG compatibily (and maybe usability) (cheese)
-
A bit off-topic: I have been a fan of the HIG for some time now and I have
filed quite a few bugs to improve HIG compliance of some apps. But, in some
cases, following the HIG to the letter results in sub ideal interfaces I think.
Interfaces can lose their simple and modern feel. You just can't innovate that
much while following the HIG.
So, looking into the HIG for basic guidance is nice, but mostly to be aware if
the problems which the HIG intended to solve.
What DRM removal software to use: Fairuse4wm,Automate unDRM,drmdbg,freeme2,soundtaxi - Audio/video stream recording forums
-
You can use lossless DRM removal tools: FairUse4WM or drmdbg + freeme2/drm2wmv.
If it is too hard for you to use lossless DRM removal software, or you can't set up your system to use them, you can use the following lossy DRM removal tools: Soundtaxi, MuvAudio, Tunebite, freeTunes, Note Burner.

archive.com is better than youtube.com
- valent on 2007-11-15
-
By contrast, The Internet Archive (www.archive.org (http://www.archive.org/)) also distributes Flash videos, but they transcode submitted videos (by default, I believe) into a variety of formats including Ogg Theora (+ Vorbis) if you didn't submit Ogg Theora + Vorbis to begin with. This is how I have seen Democracy Now!, a daily news program carried on archive.org. The Internet Archive also lets you see inline Flash ala YouTube if you prefer that alternative.
Wireless udruge i internet leecheri - super rant

i makar sam i sam protiv "sektaskog" prijema u neke vece udruge o cem smo
kome to treba u zivotu?
uzmi dsl i miran si........a ako nesto krepa imas ogromnog monopolista s

Cache (SQUID)...slozis to sve...
E sad ti onda opet treba na tom serveru, ili drugom neki Anti virus, i
anti spamer...

Kako napraviti DTK (rov iliti kanal)
-
No ima još nešto...

Canon TX1 and M-JPEG video format
-
Canon's use of the OpenDML JPEG codec. OpenDML JPEG (also known as M-JPEG) is basically a bunch of JPEGs strung together into a movie, which is very inefficient, leading to enormous file sizes. Every second of 720p video takes up over 4.4MB on your memory card -- thus, you'd fill up a 1GB card in 3.5 minutes.

- valent on 2007-07-28 -
If
audio is important, let's say 50% of your project. Well then it should
be 50% of your budget. So if the camera is $500, then $250 budgeted to
audio. Where do you mount a RODE Videomic? Spend $65 and get a cool Mini Rover -
it attaches to the tripod socket and gives you an L bracket with an
accessory shoe. That's for gathering location sound with an on-camera
mic. Runnin' and gunnin' - Depending on what you're shooting, a shotgun
mic on a boom pole or wireless lav on your talent would be ideal. The
wireless receiver can clip to your belt. If you get one such as the
Audio Technica Pro 88, you'll have headphone output too for monitoring.
I'm all about finding inexpensive options for the budding filmmaker and
after adjusting the HD2's settings manually, I can produce a pretty
dang nice picture. Funny thing though, the Sennheiser Evolution G2
Wireless mic I've got hooked up to it, cost more than the camera.
That's a first.

As much as I love Canon, the lack of a mic input would have me choosing the Sanyo. Great audio is 50% of the Viewers experience. With the Sanyo, I can add a RODE VideoMic, or wireless lav and get much better audio.

Bogofilter, in my experience. It's not even close. After training, my
spamassassin never got better than 90% catch rate, which is still some
hundred spams a day for me. Bogofilter is 99.9% at least, probably
better. False positive rate is better too.

There are monitors that give bad data in the EDID (DDC). With that
monitor it was necessary to tell the video driver to ignore the EDID data and simply do what was asked. :)
