Spurt sets Obama nearly even in superdelegates - The Boston Globe
-
After adding at least nine yesterday - among the biggest one-day hauls for either candidate since the primaries began - Obama, with 271 superdelegates, has nearly pulled even with Clinton, who has 272.5, according to the latest unofficial tally by the Associated Press. Counts by other media organizations showed him taking the lead among the 795 superdelegates, the party leaders and elected officials who will almost certainly put the eventual nominee past the finish line of 2,025 delegates overall
-
The surge signaled a critical psychological turning point for the Illinois senator, who had trailed Clinton by more than 100 superdelegates on the eve of the first nominating contests in January, when many in the party viewed her as the inevitable nominee.
-
The Obama campaign has tended to announce superdelegate endorsements at difficult moments - such as the day after losing a primary - but yesterday's announcements seemed designed to further establish him as the likely nominee.
-
The shift was an enormous blow for the Clinton campaign, which has pinned its hopes on convincing superdelegates that Clinton is more electable in November, despite Obama's lead in the total popular vote and pledged delegates awarded in primaries and caucuses.
-
Clinton and Obama have been wooing undeclared superdelegates this week in Washington, but many say they prefer to let voters or the candidates themselves decide the nominee. Furthermore, Obama supporters on Capitol Hill do not want to appear to be hounding their Senate colleague from the race given that they will want Clinton's support in the general election.
Can My Relationship Be Saved? - A Simple Question : GoArticles.com

In the book The Magic of Making Up, T W Williams shows us a method for dealing with this type of pain. It's called the Fast Forward technique and it allows you to gain control over your emotional feelings. Be sure to check out the book later.

Can my relationship be saved? I've made a mistake and now regret it.?
In a word, YES - your relationship can still be saved even if you did something terrible. Unless you pointed a gun to your ex or shouted profanity at her down to her great grandmother, then you still have a chance.
I have been there to help people to save their relationship - that includes a friend of mine who was left by his wife for someone richer, younger, and better looking! Now before you rush off and do your moves, here's a word of warning:
Forget about what you see in the movies and reality TV shows! Getting down on one knee and begging wont cut it, neither will overwhelming them with text messages or "I love You" emails.
There's no director that shouts "Cut!" and gives you a second, third, or fourth take when things don't go as planned. These things are not the answers you seek to the "can my relationship be saved?" question.
Just after you break up your head is full of mixed emotions, some of these are normally quite intense and can well be very harmfull if allowed out. They make the situation more confusing! You'd sure go ballistic and end up doing the things I advised you stay away from if you don't take proper action.
The first step in making up to your Ex is clearing yourself of these feelings. How? By accepting the break up for now and giving them and yourself a little space.
The time you'll spend alone is crucial if ever you're going to get his or her heart back. During these hours, let it all out - the resentment, the pain, the anger, etc -
Understanding why they left you is the next step to making up. Ask yourself questions like: Is it my clinginess, my indifference that shooed my ex away? Or have I become too repetitive and droning in our relationship?
Don't make excuses or reasons; critically and objectively answer those questions.
The final step is to change that attitude or that personality of yours that drove your ex away. And you better make sure that these changes are something you can keep.
Otherwise, you'd only be setting you and your ex for a stinging disappointment and a more painful breakup. This time it may be impossible for you to save it.
The plan I just talked you through is part of The Magic of Making Up. Be sure to check it out below. -

<!--endclickprintexclude-->Appearing on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" scheduled to air Tuesday, Walters shares details of her relationship with Brooke that lasted several years in the 1970s, according to a transcript of the show provided to The Associated Press.
A moderate Republican from Massachusetts who took office in 1967, Brooke was the first African-American to be popularly elected to the Senate. Both he and Walters knew that public knowledge of their affair could have ruined his career as well as hers, Walters says.
At the time, the twice-divorced Walters was a rising star in TV news and co-host of NBC's "Today" show, but would soon jump to ABC News, where she has enjoyed unrivaled success. Her affair with Brooke, which never before came to light, had ended before he lost his bid for a third term in 1978.

Featured Windows Download: Secure your laptop with Laptop Alarm
from Lifehacker by Adam Pash
Windows only: Next time you leave your laptop unattended, turn on freeware program Laptop Alarm. Laptop Alarm sets off an alarm to alert you any time someone tries to log off, shut down, or disconnect your power supply or USB mouse without entering your password. Laptop Alarm is similar to Mac-only alarm iAlertU but—let's be honest—with much less pizazz. (iAlertU is motion-sensing, for chrissake!) Either way, neither software is foolproof by any means. Laptop Alarm won't prevent anyone from grabbing your computer and running, but at the very least it might sound off the alarm in enough time to give you a fighting chance to chase down the bad guy. (The only true method of theft prevention is never leaving your laptop alone.) Laptop Alarm is freeware, Windows only. For more advanced laptop theft fun, check out LaptopLock. -

The Merck/Merial Manual for Pet Health
from Cool Tools
The Merck Veterinary Manual has long been the standard guide found in most veterinarian's back offices. Vets are required to serve the needs of many animals, not just one, and so this venerable book is their operating manual for lesser known species. It also serves as a reminder for uncommon ailments in the common species of pets. Recently Merck/Merial has published a one-volume paper-bound home edition of the Vet Manual. It is less technical, but still remarkably deep, and by far the best pan-species health guide for pets. It is often even better than many single pet health guides.
>
Besides the expected dogs, cats, and horses, it covers the health needs of rabbits, rodents, ferrets, birds, reptiles, and exotics such as pot-bellied pigs and sugar gliders. At 1,300 pages, it's an old-fashioned book, but intelligently designed, and easy to browse and study.
>
This book won't eliminate visits to the vet, but it will reduce their number, and make you smarter when you do visit. The real value of a pan-animal tome like this is when you take charge of an unfamiliar animal. It also gave us confidence to adopt pets we hitherto knew little about.

Life Expectancy Declines for American Women
-
Life expectancy for American women is declining for the first time since the Spanish influenza epidemic in 1918, according to a new study conducted by the Harvard School of Public Health. For another 7 percent or so, their life expectancy may not be getting worse, but it's not getting any better, either. The good news is that the decline in longevity has been linked to things that women can control.
Learn more about this historic drop in the life expectancy of American women, what's causing it, and how you (or the women you care about) can avoid becoming part of this disturbing trend.
WebAIM: Fonts
-
Fonts are the style of "type face" used to display text,
numbers, characters and other "glyphs" as they are often
called in the typography industry. -
fonts relatively
common to recent versions of the Windows and Mac operating systems, such
as:
- Arial,
- Book Antiqua,
- Comic Sans MS,
- Georgia,
- Courier New,
- Tahoma,
- Times New Roman,
- Trebuchet MS, and
- Verdana.
-
Font families
-
- serif,
- sans-serif,
- cursive,
- fantasy, and
- monospace.
-
Serif fonts
Serif fonts are characterized by the flared extensions,
or strokes, on the tips of such letters as f, l, and i,
as seen in the screen shot below:

-
Examples of serif fonts include Times New Roman, Georgia,
and Book Antiqua.

-

-
Sans-serif fonts
Sans-serif fonts have plain endings, and appear blockier
than serif fonts. They do not have the flared extensions,
strokes, or other kinds of ornamentation. ("Sans" means without,
and "serif" refers to the extra strokes,
or lines.)

-

-
Sans-serif fonts include Arial, Tahoma, Trebuchet MS,
and Verdana.

-
Monospace fonts get their name from the fact that each
letter takes up the same width of space -

-
Common monospace fonts are Courier and Courier New
-
Verdana is one of the most popular of the fonts designed
for on-screen viewing. It has a simple, straightforward
design, and the characters or glyphs are not easily confused.
For example, the upper-case "I" and the lower-case "L" have
unique shapes, unlike Arial, in which the two glyphs may
be easily confused. -
The words take up
more space than words in Arial, even at the same point size -
Tahoma
Tahoma is another alternative to the Arial/Helvetica style
of font. -
Tahoma is still an
acceptable font, but is probably somewhat less readable
overall than Verdana or Arial/Helvetica for long passages
of text. -
Trebuchet MS
Trebuchet is an attractive font, but it has subtle curved
embellishments that may decrease overall readability for
long passages of text. -
This is still a rather popular web font because it "has some style,"
so to speak. It is unique and has an artistic feel to it, but is still
readable for the most part. In terms of accessibility, it is better
than some fonts, but not as good as others. -
Georgia
Georgia is like the other web fonts discussed so far in that it is
wider than similar fonts meant for print design. Unlike the other web
fonts, though, Georgia is a serif font, more along the lines of Times
New Roman
Jane Goodall passes activist torch to world's youth | Science | Reuters
-
Goodall, who rose to fame in the 1960s through her ground-breaking study of chimpanzees in East Africa, now spends 300 days a year on the road using her personal story and rock star status among young people to inspire them to act on critical issues in their communities.
-
Renowned primatologist Jane Goodall, 74, symbolically passed the torch on Tuesday to a new generation of hand-picked environmental and peace activists whom she gathered this week for the first Jane Goodall Global Youth Summit.
-
She said her goal has been to build a critical mass of young activists to carry on her life's work for a more humane world, acting through youth organizations such as her own Roots & Shoots which started on her front porch in Tanzania in 1991.
-
The 100 young people at the summit in Orlando, Florida, came from 28 countries, and all were selected personally by Goodall based on their work in their communities.
Next-generation heart stent beats older device | Science | Reuters
-
Stents are wire mesh tubes inserted into coronary arteries that have been cleared of blockages. Drug-releasing versions help prevent vessels from reclogging.
-
A next-generation artery-opening device from Abbott Laboratories Inc worked as well or better than an older stent
-
Patients using Abbott's device, the Xience drug-eluting stent, had far fewer heart attacks and heart-related deaths after one year, the researchers reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
-
Results of the company-funded study of 1,000 patients known as Spirit III pitted Abbott's Xience against Boston Scientific Corp's Taxus stent. Xience proved significantly better at preventing scar tissue from renarrowing treated vessels, a measure known as in-segment late loss.
It also worked as well as Taxus in reducing rates of target vessel failure, a measure of re-treatment needed either because the device did not work or because of heart attacks or death.
And it cut major adverse cardiac events -- including heart attacks and heart-related deaths -- by 42 percent after one year.

Negotiations for the purchase of the Boeing-P8I LRMR aircraft are in the final stages and are likely to be wrapped up during Indian Navy chief Admiral Sureesh Mehta's visit to the US that began Sunday.
The agreement for the purchase under the US Foreign Military Sales (FMS) route will be signed between the two governments in New Delhi later this year, official sources said.
The P8I, which is based on the Boeing-737 platform, has been specifically developed for the Indian Navy's requirements. The aircraft, which is still in the conception stage, is expected to fly by 2012.
This will be the second big-ticket purchase from the US a year after a $1 billion agreement inked in February for six Lockheed Martin C-130J Super Hercules aircraft for the Indian Army's Special Forces.

PREVIEW: Seven New Deadly Sins

an additional Seven Deadly Sins. The fresh abominations in the eyes of the Lord were announced by Bishop Gianfranco Girotti, head of the Vatican body that oversees confessions and plenary indulgences. This organization goes by the contrition-inducing name of the Apostolic Penitentiary. In an article in the Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano, Bishop Girotti detailed the seven new ways we can go to hell or, at the minimum, be sentenced to afterlife in purgatory at the Apostle Pen. The bishop's supersizing of the mortal transgression catalog is thoroughly up-to-date (as translated by the Times of London):
1. Drug abuse2. Morally debatable experimentation
3. Environmental pollution
4. Causing poverty
5. Social inequality and injustice
6. Genetic manipulation
7. Accumulating excessive wealth
-
A deadly sins addendum is long overdue. Life has changed since Pope Gregory the Great scribbled his initial list in the sixth century. For one thing modern society has turned Envy, Gluttony, Lust, Anger, Sloth, and Greed into virtues: building self-esteem, dreaming your dream, exercising gourmet tastes, having satisfying sex for life, speaking truth to power, being relaxed and centered. And Gordon Gekko said it all about greed.
Unfortunately Bishop Girotti's late-model sins make as little sense as a Jeremiah Wright sermon. They have no gravitas. Imagine the reaction in the confessional when you say, "Father, I have littered." Plus the supplementary desecrations lack a certain flair. The beauty of Pope Gregory's lineup was that he nailed our most devilish villainies with one word each. His seven evocative nouns produced an instant mental image: a puffed-up, shifty-eyed, fat cat furiously ripping the thong off a young intern on a slow night in the Oval Office.
Windows Tip: Copy error messages text to the clipboard
-
We've all gotten error messages in Windows, and we generally all take the same approach to getting to the bottom of the error: by searching the contents of the message in Google. The annoying part of this process has always been that you can't select and copy text in the error message box, so you have to try manually typing out the error message. But the ChuckOp's eXPeriences blog points out there's another, much simpler solution.
Apparently since Windows 2000, you've been able to copy the entire error message to your clipboard by hitting the universal copy shortcut, Ctrl-C (who knew?!). That means the whole process of hunting down obscure error messages—especially those containing cryptic error codes—just got a whole lot easier.
Bollywood Beauty Aishwarya | Debutante Sikander Kher | Husband Abhishek | Summer 2007
-
It is a known fact that the Bachchans and the Khers have a very cordial bonding and that the young blood of both families, Abhishek and Sikandar are thick friends. Knowing all this, it certainly was no surprise that the 'Bahu' of Bachchan household, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan took centre stage at the party organized to celebrate the debut of Sikandar in Bollywood with 'Summer 2007'..
She took it upon herself to introduce the new star-son to the media gathered at the party and in total 'Filmy Ishtyle', the talent of tomorrow Sikandar came into the limelight amidst a dark patch of smoke. Veteran directors, Sudhir Mishra and Satish Kaushik were also present to wish Sikandar the best of luck for his future endeavors.
All eyes were on the promo stills shown in the party wherein glimpses of Sikandar's acting talent came to the fore. Talking of Sikandar, the gorgeous actress remarked, "I know Sikku as a person since a long time, but I really felt nice to see him as an actor, he is full of energy. It was good to see that he has been successful in transforming the same kind of energy in his reel life too".

Narrating her first experience with Sikandar on the sets of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas, Ash says, "Sikku was employed as Sanjay's assistant director in Devdas. I felt him to be a hard working, clean hearted and sincere guy. But the day I started knowing him personally, I realized that along with all these qualities he is professional too".
As the Kher family pins their hopes on Sikandar, it is no different for the Bachchans as well. Talking on behalf of them, Ash opines, "I am happy to find Sikku entering the world of Bollywood. But now onwards he would have to really work much harder to earn the fame". The Diva giving out Abhishek's part of the speech too said, "Abhishek has even told Sikku that he would stand alongside him so that he doesn't have to face the problems which a newcomer does in this industry. Sikku has got acting in his blood as his parents Anupam and Kiran are proven versatile actors". Stating the reason for the conspicuous absence of the rest of the Bachchan family, Ash said that they were busy with prior commitments and were not able to be here at the function.
Global Warming Bringing Spring Earlier
-
The fingerprints of human-caused climate change are evident in seasonal timing changes for thousands of species on Earth, according to dozens of studies and last year's authoritative report by the Nobel-prize winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
More than 30 scientists told The Associated Press how global warming is affecting plants and animals at springtime across the country, in nearly every state. -
In central California, the first of the field skipper sachem, drab little butterflies, was fluttering about on March 12. Just 25 years ago, that creature predictably emerged there anywhere from mid-April to mid-May.

biological timing, known as phenology, has sped up considerably as the world has warmed on average in recent years.
