Interactives . Spelling Bee . Intro
This set of activities is like an old-fashioned Spelling Bee.
Contestants -- that's you! -- in grades 1-8 will listen to three stories, one at a time, and then spell words from each story. Students in high school will listen to separate sentences and then spell the words from each sentence.
If you get stumped, you can click to hear a word again, as many times as you need to. If you're in grade three or higher, you can ask for a definition too. Since words often make more sense when they are attached to an idea, all the words in the story or sentences are in context.

WordlyWise3000.com — Vocabulary Reinforcement for All
Wordly Wise 3000 is a vocabulary curriculum that can be purchased, any time I see a website mentioned as part of curriculum, I always take a look. While the Wordly Wise 3000 curriculum costs, the website activities are free! Students are told to choose their vocabulary book (I just choose the appropriate grade level). Students can go through a word list that says each word, gives a picture, the part of speech, the definition, and a sentence using the word. They can read this information or have it read to them. Then they review the word with a mini quiz review. The audio from the website can be downloaded and saved on a CD to be used in class without computers. After students have learned the words, they can play games that reinforce the vocabulary learned. Games include concentration, flashcards, hangman, matching synonyms, and word searches. Wordly Wise 3000 has vocabulary units for second through twelfth grade
tutpup - play, compete, learn
TutPup is an outstanding, free math and spelling practice website. At TutPup students can compete in fun, educational games against kids from all over the world live. The site reminds me a lot of the World Math Day competition. Students are matched up with other students from around the world where they play fact games and compete in real time to see who best knows their stuff. I love that TutPup is available to students all year long (unlike the World Math Day site), it doesn’t collect personal information about students, and there are several games to choose from each with multiple levels. TutPup helps students build math skills in the areas of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, algebra, and a mixture of those skills. TutPup also helps students build spelling skills with a spelling game
Learning Vocabulary Fun (Test Preparation & Vocabulary Building for K-12 & ESL Students)
Vocabulary is a website where students can build spelling, reading, phonics, and vocabulary skills while playing games. The word games provide a motivation to manipulate, examine, and interact with the core building blocks of communication. There are six games to play and hundreds of options for each game. Games include: Hang Mouse (like hangman), Crossword Puzzle, Word Search, Vocabulary Quiz, Picture Match Game, and Word Scramble. Use the Vocabulary website to introduce new units, during phonics or center time, or as practice during a unit. The Vocabulary website offers multiple levels of each game and many themes. : Search this site for vocabulary words that tie in with your specific classroom and school themes. The site is appropriate for first through eighth grade
Software Prodigy - Casual Games Development
WordConnect is a puzzle word game similar to the classic game tetris. Some have called it a hybrid between tetris and scrabble. You have to place the falling letters to form a word horizontally or vertically. Whenever you complete a word, the meaning of the word is fetched from dict.org through Aonaware. You finish a level when you manage to find all the words found in the list of each level.
Online Spelling Program
SpellingCity is an online spelling program that makes practicing for spelling tests fun. Enter up to 20 spelling words and have the computer, teach you, test you, or play games to learn your spelling words. Can also practice Dolch words
