Ten Secrets to Better Blogging | chrisbrogan.com
-
There’s lots of information and advice hidden in the archives of this site, and I admit that it’s not especially easy to find it all. To that end, I’m going to put up a series of posts from time to time where I’ll give you links to 10 of my posts about a topic that might be of use to you. Today’s topic: blogging. Let me know if this is helpful. In reading through these posts a bit, it’s funny how I sometimes echo themes, repeat advice, etc. But I believe repetition is a good teacher. Plus, I’m forgetful. It’s a perfect mix.
louisgray.com: The Importance Of Blog Linking Seems to Be Declining
-
I am a strong believer in the power of linking between blogs, and I still go out of my way to link, especially to peers, to smaller blogs, and to developers of services I write about. At one time, I thought being linked to by the most prominent bloggers could have a significant impact on my traffic. And for a short time, it did. But now, I've seen traffic from other blogs to be driving an ever-declining percentage of visits to my site, swamped by social media tools, aggregation sites, and of course, Google search.
Toluu Blog

We have just launched a re-aligned ‘Match’ page with a cleaner UI and greater functionality. We have also made updates to ‘Contacts’ and feed ‘Subscribers’.
We recently made major changes to the architecture of matching to make it load dramatically faster. Today we have made design and functionality improvements. The new design is simpler and cleaner which should make it easier to hone in on the people and feeds that matter to you.
We have also introduced 3 filtering options. Now you can see your matches based on when they joined Toluu. Filtering by ‘This Month’ or ‘This Week’ shows only users who have joined in that period who match with you, surfacing fresh feeds and people. This makes matches more useful for users with many feeds or those who have been with us since the beginning.
louisgray.com: New NoiseRiver App Adds Interest Filters to FriendFeed Stream
-
As FriendFeed has grown its user base, the number of people to follow and items they add to their personal streams is increasing. Some are finding the resulting noise to be too much in its native form. While I've aggressively approached this issue by using the "Hide" function, others are looking to new services to take the next step, highlighting, in advance, those items that are most likely to draw your attention. NoiseRiver, a new service released yesterday, updates your stream based on instructions you give, including your liked and hated keywords and individuals, helping draw your eye to the best stuff fast.
Is a music “tax” paid to ISPs the answer? - - mathewingram.com/work
-
After you add all the fees for those content creators, we’ll all be paying $100 for our Internet access (which of course the ISPs have started filtering and shaping because of all the downloading). And then there’s the goat rodeo that would be involved in figuring out who gets the money collected. Or maybe we could just let the ISPs and the music labels work all that out — I’m sure they would do it fairly, right?
Nitobi Survey Shows Open Web Majority | Techvibes Blog
-
The interesting aspect is that there’s no one dominant language or platform. What does dominate the survey is open source, which comprises 80% of the platform responses, 84% of the Ajax framework responses, and 59% of the development tools responses. With the tools, Dreamweaver remains popular among designers, but a quarter of the responses were simple text editors. When asked what causes the most pain in web development, the first answer was overwelmingly “browser compatibility”, followed by “testing”.
The appropriate platform is in the eye of the beholder | Broadcasting Brain
-
Blogging is not purely a “business communications and marketing tool”. First and foremost, blogging is a communication tool. We measure our successes in this medium by the goals we set or the interests we pursue. Sometimes the interest is self-expression, pure and simple. Maybe a creator is satisified if they find one kindred soul in the wilderness or amongst the roaring crowd. Should there be any limits on the media used to do this?
