A worker at iPhone maker Foxconn's southern China manufacturing hub, the scene of a string of employee suicides this year, died late last week from what his family said was overwork, a claim the company denied.
After a string of suicides in Foxconn's China factories, home to some 400,000 workers who manufacture electronic devices for giants such as HP, Dell, and Apple, the management announced it plans to raise workers' salaries by 20%.\n\nTaiwan-based Hon Hai Precision Industry, the anchor of Foxconn Technology Group, claims the salary increase has been planned for some time, but doesn't say when the raise will be implemented.
Every once in a while you get a story so strange and horrible that it takes a while to sink in. I’m talking about the suicide of a Foxconn employee who was caught doing something with an “iPhone prototype” and jumped out of the window.
I read with horror this morning that over 1,500 farmers in India committed mass suicide after being driven to debt by crop failure.
