Cisco Systems earned the top spot on the new Greenpeace "Cool IT" leadership list, while some of Japan's biggest electronics vendors, Toshiba, Sharp, Sony and Panasonic, finished last. The list ranks 15 of the biggest technology vendors on their efforts to fight climate change.
The market for carbon accounting software in the U.S. last year was as small as an average venture capital funding round: about $10 million. But researchers are predicting that the market will boom to some $120 million by next year and $250 million by 2012. Competing for that cash are dozens of startups, as well as big players in the enterprise software field, along with firms that have strayed over from the field of environmental and health compliance.
Continuing its focus on providing market-leading sustainability solutions to customers worldwide, SAP AG (NYSE: SAP) today announced its intent to acquire TechniData AG, the world’s leading provider of product safety and environmental, health and safety (EHS) solutions. Through this acquisition, SAP intends to expand its product portfolio as well as its market and thought leadership in sustainability.
The latest version of Greenpeace’s Cool IT Leaderboard (1) reveals how some global IT companies are leading the industry by proving the potential of IT solutions to address climate change and reshape energy use, while others seem unable to decide if IT climate solutions are a significant business opportunity or a simple marketing strategy
Landis+Gyr, in cooperation with SAP AG, is offering energy utilities a new dimension in the transparency and availability of energy data.
The companies have cooperated on the development of a state-of-the-art meter data unification and synchronisation (MDUS) system, an advanced software platform that integrates Landis+Gyr’s Advanced Metering Management (AMM) head-end system with SAP’s comprehensive business software for utilities. Integrating smart metering and enterprise services saves costs, improves process efficiency, and brings utilities one step closer to an interoperable Smart Grid.
