New blog post: IBM based #mobile, crowdsourced-reporting application helps schools speed up repairs http://t.co/M1Pgr26s
The GSMA Green Power for Mobile programme has published a new white paper today called ‘Community Power – Using Mobile to Extend the Grid’.
A new report issued by Vodafone, in collaboration with Accenture, concludes that mobile technology could cut Europe’s annual energy bill by at least €43 billion and effect a reduction in annual greenhouse gas emissions by at least 113Mt CO2e by 2020. This represents 18% of the UK’s annual CO2e output in 2008 and approximately 2.4% of expected EU emissions in 2020. However, this opportunity can only be realised if industry and governments collaborate.
Top mobile telephone suppliers have agreed to back an EU-wide harmonisation of phone chargers, the European Commission said on Monday, hailing the pact as good news for consumers and the environment.
The Commission said the agreement would involve the creation of an EU norm, and that the new generation of mobile phones would use a standard micro-USB socket to ensure compatibility.
Mobile phone company Sony Ericsson has two "green" handsets with a carbon footprint 15% lower than current models. By cutting packaging, using recycled plastics and reducing the use of solvents in the paints, the electronics company claims to have made the handsets more environmentally friendly.
Employees at the Volvo Group in Göteborg, Sweden have been asked to reach a new level of carbon emissions obsession with personal cell phone-based CO2 "pedometers" that calculate the emissions of their daily commutes.
A new software application will make keeping track of your carbon footprint as easy as having a mobile phone in your pocket. A London-based start-up has developed software for mobile phones that uses global positioning systems (GPS) to automatically figure out whether you are walking, driving or flying and then calculate your impact on the environment.
