After all, it's a game in which subtle variations in atmospheric conditions can play a huge role in determining both the type of match played and the outcome. But what will happen to the pitches and playing conditions in Australia, for example, if extreme drought conditions persist and become an annual occurrence? What will happen to the game in England and Wales if our summers see more in the way of heatwaves and less frequent, but more torrential downpours, as the Met Office seems to believe likely?
