Sony Ericsson is adding on to their GreenHeart line of greenish cell phones with a new release, the Cedar. Just two years ago, the GreenHeart line held only a concept phone, but now it is several models strong as Sony Ericsson focuses on designing cell phones with ever smaller footprints. The Cedar features business practicality with social networking tools necessary for any mobile device these days...and it has a few nice green(er) features we can appreciate.
"As part of their GreenHeart effort to release mobile phones that lean on the eco-friendly side, Sony Ericsson has released two options - the Elm and the Hazel - both of which seem to have green features that set them above other similar devices on the market, including using recycled materials and eliminating toxic materials. The new phones do more than just ditching the paper manuals."
Mobile phone company Sony Ericsson has two "green" handsets with a carbon footprint 15% lower than current models. By cutting packaging, using recycled plastics and reducing the use of solvents in the paints, the electronics company claims to have made the handsets more environmentally friendly.
A study by a leading environmental group says it is poisoning our soil and water, causing serious health problems.
Booming economies like India and China that are increasingly dependent on electronic and electrical equipments have created a new but very dangerous stream of waste, called "electronic-waste", or simply e-waste
"The findings from this study are absolutely shocking. It seems like e-waste takeback in India is in no way a priority for global brands. Otherwise, how else can one explain the irresponsible conduct of brands like Sony, Sony Ericsson, Toshiba, Samsung and Philips, which have no take-back service in India whatsoever?"
