Watch out Tesla, here comes the Audi e-tron | Frankfurt Auto Show 2009 - CNET Reviews

The most exciting concept shown at the 2009 Frankfurt auto show is an electric sports car, the Audi e-tron. Borrowing body lines from the Audi R8, it can't help but look good. And boasting specs like 3,319 pound-feet of torque, it can't help but make gearheads drool.

Still, less acceleration, lower top speed and not yet in production, I think Tesla can sleep easy for another while!

Technology Review: Blogs: Potential Energy: Tesla Receives Key Funding for Electric Sedan

The plan at Tesla Motors has always been to go beyond its first vehicle, the $100,000 electric Roadster, to make more-affordable electric cars--a plan that had come to depend on the startup receiving a hefty loan from the government. Today, the Department of Energy announced that it has approved that loan--in the amount of $465 million. The money could allow Tesla to bring its Model S electric sedan to market, as planned, by 2011.

My Weekend with the Electric Mini Cooper (Mini-e) and my review, photos, and videos.

Introduction:

The Mini-e is in a 'field trial' in the US. It is an all-electric car. It has the same body as a Mini Cooper S. People were invited to apply for one. Well, actually, for a 1-year lease. My sister and her husband applied and recieved one of the first ones to be delivered in LA. (They are only availalbe in the LA and New York areas.) At the end of the year the car will have to go back to Mini Cooper for evaluation.

We picked up the Mini-e at Alexander Mini in LA on Saturday, May 30, 2009.

This the review...

You could call electric car company Coda Automotive the anti-Tesla.

The company, formed by fleet vehicle provider Miles Electric, on Wednesday unveiled the Coda, a plain-looking electric car that's designed for everyday use.

The highway-capable four-door sedan can go between 90 and 120 miles on its lithium ion battery pack. It will be available to consumers in California in the fall of 2010 at a price of $45,000. The cost can be offset by about $10,000 from a federal tax credit and state incentives, the company said.
