25 Places for Kids to Find Science Projects Online
"25 Places for Kids to Find Science Projects Online
Curiosity regarding the machinations and nuances of the world remains one of the universal hallmarks of childhood – transcendent of nation, race, gender, socioeconomic bracket, and even time itself. Kids want to explore and understand how things work and interact with one another, and simplified interpretations of the sciences offer them one route towards forming a broader perspective of the concepts that propel the universe. Even children more predisposed towards the arts can satiate their desire to piece together bits of data and information using simple experiments conducted with cheap supplies found around the typical home.
Science fairs remain common events across schools worldwide, challenging students to discover as much as they can about biology, astronomy, chemistry, physics, technology, and other essential inquiries into how everything from a single-celled organism to the most magnanimous galaxy operate. Aside from the obvious advantages to broadening knowledge regarding the aforementioned subjects, these science projects also nurture critical thinking skills, teach proper safety and experimental protocol, and develop logic. Beyond the classroom, parents interested in entertaining their children in a way that stimulates and educates can provide the supervision and supplies necessary to conduct science experiments at home. Always be sure to read over the safety advice and disclaimers on the following websites – though children remain the target audience and the experiments are designed to maximize their well-being without minimizing their education, taking the proper precautions at all times prevents injuries of all types. Conducting these science experiments at home also helps teach children the values of self-preservation and safety in all aspects of their lives."

VSTE – The Content Creating Classroom | Technology Times
"Creating meaningful content and putting it out there is a 21st century skill
* 1 trillion unique URLs out there on any given day – that’s a lot of content!
* Broadcasting Ourselves – 20 hours of video content being uploaded to Youtube every minute!
* Socializing – Facebook, Myspace, Twitter are the most popular sites right now
Classrooms need to transform into hubs of creativity – Blue Man group school as example (who knew they had a school?!?!) – The Blue School
Finding, analyzing, and synthesizing information in the 21st century – in a way that is relevant to our students – needs to be meaningful to our students – they want to be able to manipulate data (click!) – you can’t click a textbook"

"Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Resources for Grades PreK-12
PBS offers all Americans the opportunity to explore new ideas and new worlds related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) learning through television and online content. On-line broadband access and digital media are dramatically changing the opportunities available to the nation’s educators improving STEM education. Our recent national educator survey (Grunwald, 2009) indicates that more teachers than ever before are turning to digital media resources to help their students understand concepts, practice new skills and engage in exciting, authentic learning experiences."
Let's Go! Google Earth and GIS Resources
"Whether taking a virtual hike to learn more about glaciers and geysers or exploring social issues related to poverty and land use, Google Earth and GIS (Geographic Information System) resources are a wonderful way to bring the world into your classroom. In this workshop, you'll learn to use Google Earth and apply a variety of GIS resources across the K-12 curriculum.
Bring literature alive through visualizing the settings of picture books and novels. Add relevance to social studies, science, and math activities with access to endless real-world data sources. Enrich cultural and language studies with an exploration of geography and travel. Immerse young people in history by following the Oregon Trail, tracking the movement of troops through conflicts, and imagining life on the Silk Road using satellite images, photographs, and maps. Content place-based learning with global exploration for an engaging, interdisciplinary approach that addresses both standards and individual learning needs.
The old way is to look at a map. The new way is to explore our world."
Teaching and technology ~ presentations and resources for educators
"Presentation and workshop documents
During the last six or so years I have created a number of 'how-to' documents and presentations for a variety of web based and related technologies. They are available from the various workshop web pages however I thought it might prove helpful to link to all the documents from a single page. Some of my workshop participants have referred to these documents as 'cheat sheets'.
