Ignoring YouTube, Ayatollah Sees No Evil - The Lede Blog - NYTimes.com
-
He did not mention or try to account for the fact that dozens of videos posted on YouTube by Iranians — like the one embedded above, showing large crowds of green-clad protesters refusing to chant slogans against Israel and the United States, or the one below, showing protesters clashing with members of the Basij militia — seemed to completely contradict his account of the day.
-
The United States supported Web sites such as Facebook and YouTube with the aim of influencing the rioters and undermining the government’s position both nationally and internationally. Sites such as Facebook and YouTube were devised by the United States in order to wage a psychological war against Iran.

The repercussions of a 'Twitter revolution' - The Boston Globe
-
That their voices are missing from Twitter does not mean they are not relying on the same new media tools to mobilize their own supporters; they simply do it in Farsi and on local sites - we simply do not know where to look.
-
These tools are simply too useful as sources of intelligence about what is happening in the country. Not only do they help the Iran government to follow the events closely (as well as to understand the perception of the government’s actions) in every single locality with an Internet connection, they also help it to understand the connections between various activists and their supporters in the West. From the intelligence-gathering perspective, Twitter has been a gift from heaven.

Those riots were reportedly put down by violence, though details about what happened remain sketchy. The official death toll was nine, though Uighur activists and human rights groups claimed it was much higher, reaching into the hundreds.

Breaking the 140 barrier :: The Future of the Internet — And How to Stop It
twitter limits / possibilities
-
witter is a foundational technology. By that I don’t mean it’s (necessarily) revolutionary, just that it’s a building block. Its open APIs allow it to be baked into all sorts of other services, and like other foundational technologies — say, PC operating systems, or Internet protocol — it’s evolving comparatively slowly. Even MediaWiki, the software behind Wikipedia, hasn’t changed all that quickly. Too much is built on top of it, both technologically and in users’ practices, to change it hastily.

Twitter on the Barricades - Six Lessons Learned - NYTimes.com
Summary of twitter in Iran election lessons
-
As the Iranian government restricts journalists’ access to events, the protesters have used Twitter’s agile communication system to direct the public and journalists alike to video, photographs and written material related to the protests.
-
Collectively, however, the tweets can create a personality or environment that reflects the emotions of the moment and helps drive opinion.

The Revolution Will NOT Be Twittered | techPresident
Critique of Andrew Sullian
-
There is something like digital catnip on the breakfast bar for western politicogeeks in the story of Iran's disputed election and the ensuing power struggle roiling the Middle East's largest theocracy. Anything that suggests that some of the tools and tricks adopted among the wired, iPhone-wielding politically active classes in the United States may be used to - dramatic pause - start a revolution in one of the world's most dangerous countries carries the potency of a synthetic narcotic injected into the great XML vein of the Internet...
How Iran's Hackers Killed Big Brother - The Daily Beast
-
The value of Tweets right now is less the information they contain than the solidarity they promote. Like civil-rights protesters who sang rousing hymns as they were carried off to jail, Twitterers are bearing witness to what's happening around them, and calling out into the darkness of cyberspace for confirmation. I'm here. You're here, too. We are present.
