The debate on how to monitize news continues. Michael makes a great point that I have always held to be true that what newspaper subscribers are paying for is convenience (he actually says it's the paper) not the news itself.
Thanks to @mikeboss for the heads up on this article which mentions such things as e-readers and micro-payments. As a business model junkie I have loved watching the complete meltdown of the newspaper industry. Mostly because I know that what will rise from the ashes will be magnitudes better (however not all share my optimism).
I think this is a fascinating effort. Take local blogs, print them and sell ads around them. Very interesting. A lot will depend on the quality of the content. All the content is hyper local and the bloggers get a share of advertising. I imagine most blogger would do it for the exposure.
A kind of long but great read from the author of "The Vanishing Newspaper". He sees a future of smaller more focused paper filled w/ analysis and investigative reporting (isn't that what it used to be like?)
