STUFFLEUFAGUS - “A true friend stabs you in the front” - Oscar Wilde » Bink.nu | Microsoft ponders Ruby language
-
I love RadRails - but I would LOVE to see a Microsoft IDE for Ruby on Rails. Why? Because Microsoft builds IDEs that teach me how to program. Really - they do. From the help system to links to examples, built in auto-complete of commands - it’s a great IDE, even if sometimes the language behind the IDE frustrates people.

This is a perfect example of the point I've been making: transparent communication strategies are tghe way of the future.

Primarily because it fits with our philosophy and with our goals - to be as open as possible about everything that we do. There's certain information we're bound not to reveal (like a full client list or the exact amount each client/project earned us), and there's other pieces of data that would make for a negative experience if they were revealed (like exactly how much each SEOmozzer earns). But, with those exceptions, it's my opinion that we have nothing to lose from revealing our finances and everything to gain. There's no competitive information contained here that our competitors could use against us and nothing that would hurt our reputation (at least, in my opinion). I believe that honesty and transparency are the greatest ways that we can give back to a community that has so warmly welcomed us.

as long as it comes with no commercials I'd be all over that.

Almost, Not Yet - » Blog Archives » Finding Free & Legal Music

When it comes to filling a digital audio player you have several choices. If you purchased a Play For Sure device, you can use Napster, Rhapsody, or Yahoo! Music. If you purchased an iPod, you can utilize the iTunes Store. But all of these options will set you back some coin. A question a lot of people ask is, “Is there any free music, that is also legal, available for me to download?” and the answer is, “Most definitely.” Let us take a look at some of my favorite places to find free legal music.

It's great to see some great companies heading in this direction. It's only a matter of time now. It's just a question of who's going to hit the first homerun, and then who's going to buy them :)

Goowy is also Flash-based, but I don’t feel any of the usual negative traits that Flash can bring. It has lots of well-written and usable applications, it’s not lightning fast but it’s not too slow either, and it all works within the same window with the standard desktop-OS-like toolbar. The apps…well, the apps are great. They open in windows you can move around your webtop using a pretty precise grid, which makes organization really easy. You’ve got your standard file-uploader, mail application, RSS reader, instant messenger, bookmarks, calendar and contacts. All of these apps are very well made; for example, the RSS reading functionality is almost as good as in my online reader of choice - Netvibes. I wouldn’t exchange Netvibes for it just yet, but if weren’t able to use Netvibes anymore, Goowy would do just fine. Same goes for other applications, which makes Goowy by far the most usable WebOS in this list.As far as settings go, you’ve got a lot to choose from. Actually, Goowy is so advanced that I almost feel bad giving it a short rundown instead of a full-featured review it deserves, and I will probably make up for it sometime. Let’s just mention it has a spell checker and a spam filter, which shows the devotion to detail in this product.
Although this text is not a contest, if I had to pick just one WebOS to use, Goowy would be it - and by a big margin. The learning curve is very short; it looks sexy, it has a solid number of well-written applications, and it’s all pretty-much bug free. Great job.
Slashdot | Vending Machine For Books Coming Next Year
-
An anonymous reader writes "CNN writes about a $50,000 machine that can print books on demand. It can print up to 550 pages and put a binding on the book in seven minutes. It will be debuting in a select number of U.S. libraries in 2007. The machine is the 'output' end of a service called On Demand Books, which is also just debuting. From the article: 'Some 2.5 million books are now available - about one million in English and no longer under copyright protection. On Demand accesses the volumes through Google and the Open Content Alliance, among other sources. [Co-founder Dane] Neller predicts that within about five years On Demand Books will be able to reproduce every volume ever printed.'"
Advertising Age - Pepsi Dons Disguise in Attempt to Seduce Whole Foods Devotees
- I find it interesting that small companies try and act bigger than they are, and big companies try and act smaller then they are. It's kind of like teenagers trying to act older and adults trying to act younger. Of course for some of us it's not acting it's just a maturaty. - tacanderson on 2006-11-10

Hiding ownership
Of course, no one can accuse the $35 billion food and beverage behemoth of being little. But Pepsi the Goliath is trying to behave that way to slay the many Davids dominating Whole Foods' aisles. To compete with the homespun, lifestyle-oriented companies that appeal to the Whole Foods consumer, Pepsi is creating wholly new startup brands for the chain that bear no telltale trace of their corporate lineage and are supported with very little marketing.
