The Special Activities Division (SAD) is a division of the United States Central Intelligence Agency's (CIA) National Clandestine Service (NCS), responsible for covert action and "special activities". These activities include covert political influence and paramilitary operations. Within SAD there are two separate groups. One for paramilitary operations and another for political influence. ^[1] Special Operations Group (SOG) is the element within SAD responsible for paramilitary operations

- They are also fully trained intelligence officers with all the clandestine skills that come with that training. These officers often operate in remote locations behind enemy lines to carry out direct action
- Within the Special Operations Group of SAD, there are three elements. These elements are Air Branch, Maritime Branch, and Ground Branch.
- As such, Paramilitary Operations Officers are trained to operate in all of these areas and environments. Because these officers are taken from the most elite units in the US military and then provided with additional training to be CIA clandestine intelligence officers and SAD/SOG operatives in all these environments, many US security experts assess them as the elite of the US special missions units. ^[44]
