  • It may happen many a times that you install a program and it doesn't show up
under Add/ Remove Program in Windows XP. This problem can occur if the program
you installed creates a registry key name that is longer than 60 characters in
length. Add/Remove Programs only lists program names it locates up to the point
it encounters this situation. Follow the steps given to solve the
    problem:

    1. Go to C:\Windows\Inf folder. In the right pane, scroll down
to sysoc.inf. Open it with notepad. It will look
    like…
    [Components]
    NtComponents=ntoc.dll,NtOcSetupProc,,4
    Pinball=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,pinball.inf,HIDE,7

    2.
The word "HIDE" in an entry hides that application from your Add/Remove Programs
dialog box. To add Pinball to the Add/Remove menu, delete the word HIDE from its
entry. Leave the commas that surround it.

    3.
Save the file. Check for the new entries in the Add/Remove Programs dialog box
    after you restart your computer.
    • My favorite computer clean up program, jv powertools, is the best for finding these little programs that suck up your registry space but cant be removed. It's almost 40 dollars however, so its good to find a DIY method for finding these programs. - on 2009-11-01
    Add Sticky Note
  • Alternate Method (when the programs are not in sysoc.inf file)

    1. Right
click the Program's shortcut/ Properties to gain the target path where the
application folder is located. Delete the folder.

    2. Go to
Start/Run/Msconfig/Startup and make sure it is not listed or checked there. If
    so, uncheck it.

    3. Remove the program listing from registry by going
    here: Start/Run/Regedit

For items that were in the Start menu, Programs,
    Startup folder:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared
Tools\MSConfig\startupfolder. You'll find a subkey for each disabled
    item.

For items loaded from the Registry
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg. Again,
you'll find a subkey for each disabled item.

    Again while in Regedit,
    navigate to this key:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications. If the program is
    listed, right click, delete.

    4. Go to Windows Explorer/Tools/Folder
Options/File Types. If the program file type is listed, either use Change or
    Delete.

Empty and Cleaned-up Templates. [UPDATED]

    • EMPTY Pleasantview

      Download: http://www.box.net/public/q51a8g3pr9

Argon created an even emptier Pleasantview. Get it here.

Sick of having Pleasantview's townies and NPCs in every custom neighborhood? Sick of fixing the mess that "DeleteAllCharacters" leaves behind? If you replace your Pleasantview template with this empty template, neither of the above will be a problem anymore. Any time you create a custom neighborhood, it will be completely empty, with no sims at all.

      • Open C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\UserData\Neighborhoods
      • Make a backup of the N001 folder
      • Open the N001 folder. Delete everything inside the Characters folder and delete the file N001_Neighborhood.package
      • Unzip the downloaded file, which is N001_Neighborhood.package. Place this into the N001 folder.

Repeat the process for StrangeTown and Veronaville, located here:
      http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,4306.msg334133.html#msg334133
    • EMPTY UNI, NL, and OFB TEMPLATES

      Download: http://www.box.net/public/rhnaxge14b

      These are completely empty templates.

Once you install them, any time you add one of these sub-neighborhoods to one of your neighborhoods, no new characters will be added. Very useful if you hate townies, or want to control the number of characters that get dumped into your neighborhoods.

      • Open C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Nightlife\TSData\Res\NeighborhoodTemplate\
      • Make a backup of the D001 folder
      • Open the D001 folder. Delete everything inside the Characters folder and delete the file D001_Neighborhood.package
      • Unzip the downloaded file, which is D001_Neighborhood.package. Place this into the D001 folder.
      • Open C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 University\TSData\Res\NeighborhoodTemplate\
      • Make a backup of the U001 folder
      • Open the U001 folder. Delete everything inside the Characters folder and delete the file U001_Neighborhood.package
      • Unzip the downloaded file, which is U001_Neighborhood.package. Place this into the U001 folder.
      • Repeat for U002 and U003
      • Open C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Open For Business\TSData\Res\NeighborhoodTemplate\
      • Make a backup of the B001 folder
      • Open the B001 folder. Delete everything inside the Characters folder and delete the file B001_Neighborhood.package
      • Unzip the downloaded file, which is B001_Neighborhood.package. Place this into the B001 folder.
