Windows Small Business Server 2008: Support and Troubleshooting : John R. Pattison

  • Run the Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool
  • QL Server does not HAVE to be installed on a second server (could be on the primary server), but generally it is recommended to separate it
  • 3 more annotations...

SBS 2008 becomes slow a few days after restart

For instance, you tell us how much memory your system is using, but not what
processes are using them. Exchange and SQL will both take "free" memory and
use it, so seeing your memory usage climb is NOT uncommon and certainly not
a problem in most installations.
Remark: As a Databaseserver (Exchange, AD and so on are one too) consumingas much RAM (for caching) as possible (just beneath the max. amount ofphysical RAM) is GOOD (for the all-over performance).

Did you check the free space on all your partition (>=40% free space for> best performance on NTFS files systems) and defraged it?I have 5 drives in 2 partitions.

How to size the hardware required for SBS 2008 - David Overton's Blog - David Overton's Blog and Discussion Site

non-binding, your mileage may vary, please take with a pinch of salt and don’t sue me)
Sizing is not a science and you should always put in more than you need as it is easier for something to be sat idle than to be “in need”.
