You think weddings, you naturally think wedding dress and there are some great styles out there. For those of you who'll happily go for the 'pre-loved' option, check out a once worn dress at eBay (check out Amber's eBay bargain of the week) or visit The Dressmarket. Oxfam has several dedicated bridal boutiques with new and used dresses and your fee, around £250 per dress, will go to helping the needy.

it's not really evolution, but political selection. it would be more interesting to reflect on how politics, economics and ethics come to shape these designs instead of parading them as the 'fittest designs'.

It's ok, makes me worried a bit as I wouldn't like to see natural landscapes substituted by architectural ones. How about using those ideas to restore old existing yet constructed places? Amazing otherwise

O Atelier ARX Portugal, dos irmãos Nuno Mateus e José Mateus, venceu o concurso, internacional, de ideias para um edifício de escritórios no Parque das Nações.

A dupla de arquitectos apostou num edifício bioclimático, intimamente ralacionado com a natureza, desde a sua forma, que se assemelha ao tronco de uma árvore, com aberturas que permitem um maior diálogo com o espaço envolvente, até à recolha das águas pluviais, reutilizadas na rega dos espaços verdes integrados e nos autoclismos sanitários.

Quanto ao revestimento da fachada ser em granito negro para contribuir para o aquecimento do edifício, espero sinceramente que isso seja controlado, e uma vez que está prevista a instalação de painéis fotovoltaicos, estes, a meu ver, deviam ser parte primordial do desenho arquitectónico, desde o primeiro esquiço.
Talvez se o granito tivesse sido substituido pelos painéis ou paredes de trombe teria o mesmo efeito de caixa negra e assim os painéis não teriam de ser colocados a posteriori...

É vulgar nos nossos dias, chamar de Design a um produto considerado belo, ou interessante. Os profissionais sabem que o significado de Design é outro. Pode nem ser belo! Tem de funcionar, tem de ocupar um espaço necessário, tem de ser executado em materiais actuais, tem de ser projectado para ser fabricado industrialmente. Infelizmente criam-se peças ou objectos desnecessários,não cumprindo nenhumas das regras a não ser a intenção de ser diferente, de chamar a atenção.
Chamo-lhe Design de Verão porque a marca de desporto Quiksilver encomendou este projecto, para servir no Verão e promover a sua marca já bem conhecida, famosa entre os mais jovens. É belo? Depende dos gostos. É funcional? Necessário? Mas isso hoje pouco conta...

b) Space-use analysis and architectural conception

Space-use analysis is about methods, procedures and concepts for the evaluation of architectural space both the building and the urban scale, including computer tools. The main difference between mainstream environment-behaviour studies and space-use analysis is the emphasis on descriptive techniques in the latter, i.e., techniques that objectively describe architectural space and relate this description to specific problems of human spatial behaviour. In other words, is it about describing space, mapping user’s spatial behaviours and researching their relationships.

This domain concerns also the study of design choices and design decisions, especially in the case of conception and analysis of complex projects. It refers to subjects as the theory of the project, the connections between physical and virtual architecture and the relationship between architecture, natural and built environment.

Each PhD candidate is tutored by two supervisors. AA Graduate School staff supervising PhD projects include Lawrence Barth, Andrew Benjamin, Nicholas Bullock, Mark Cousins, Jorge Fiori, Hugo Hinsley, Marina Lathouri, Peter Sharratt, Brett Steele and Simos Yannas.

PhD degrees at the AA are administered in partnership with the Open University Research School.

Candidates for MPhil/PhD research degrees must already hold an appropriate post-professional Master's degree in their proposed area of MPhil/PhD research
