  • Die Videowebsite Dailymotion bietet Videos künftig auch im freien Videoformat Ogg Theora an und nutzt dabei das Videotag aus HTML 5. Die Videos können so beispielsweise mit Firefox 3.5 ohne zusätzliche Plug-ins abgespielt werden.
  • Für die breite Akzeptanz dessen, was Mozilla als Open Videos
    bezeichnet, ist aber noch eine entscheidende Hürde zu nehmen: Bislang gibt es kaum Bewegung um Werbebereiche in Richtung Open Video, und ohne eine Anbindung der Videoplayers an AdServer ist Open Video für kommerzielle Anbieter keine attraktive Alternative.

Hulu and Boxee go back and forth with consumers in the middle | Entertainment & HDTV | MacUser | Macworld

  • Up until recently, users who installed Boxee on their Apple TVs could enjoy video from Hulu streamed directly to their big-screen televisions. Unfortunately, this seemed to displease Hulu overlords NBC and Fox—people watching television on their TVs? Madness. Hulu put a stop to the practice forthwith.



    You might think that was that, but come now—this is Internet-town. Boxee found that it could bring back access to Hulu via the site’s RSS feeds. Point for Boxee! But Hulu quickly dealt a devastating return blow when it blocked Boxee’s browser from accessing the feeds. The problem is the clever folks at Boxee keep finding a way around the restrictions, leaving Hulu to scurry and plug each hole in turn. Boxee’s now integrated a status display in its software that tells you whether or not Hulu is currently available (information also available from a Twitter account).



    Some of you may remember my cardinal rule of technology (never bet against the hackers)—like many corporations, the content providers here (or, well, “content witholders” in this scenario) don’t seem to have realized that they’re on the losing end of this battle.



    We expect the duel to continue until either a) NBC and Fox realize that they’re actively preventing people from using their service (not to mention watching the ads that power it) and relent or b) Hulu disappears into the ether, another failed example of the problems inherent in holding on to an archaic business model.

  • Ob das Medienarchiv eines Fernsehsenders oder die Fotosammlung auf dem eigenen Rechner – die Suche nach Multimedia-Daten ist auch heutzutage noch problematisch, da Bilder, Videos und Audiodaten meist nur auf Grundlage von Dateinamen oder manuell zugeordneten Stichworten auffindbar sind. Die Forscher im Geschäftsfeld Semantische Audio-Visuelle Systeme entwickeln deshalb Methoden zur automatischen, inhaltsbasierten Beschreibung von Bild- und Videosignalen, um die Erkennung, Suche und Verarbeitung von multimedialen Daten zu erleichtern.

  • Semantische Multimedia-Analyse-Tools

    Im Mittelpunkt der Forschungsarbeit steht die Foto- und Videoanalyse. Hierbei werden aus visuellen Inhalten eindeutige Merkmale extrahiert, die zur Erkennung visueller Inhalte sowie zur Bestimmung eines Ähnlichkeitsmaßes herangezogen werden können. Neben der Foto-Ähnlichkeit, der Gesichts- und Objekterkennung sowie der inhaltsbasierten, semantischen Verschlagwortung von abgebildeten Szenarien, werden auch multi-modale Analyseverfahren zur Bestimmung von emotionalen Eindrücken in Bildern und Musik entwickelt.

  • Cloud Computing

    Cloud computing is a style of computing that characterises a model in which providers deliver a variety of IT-enabled capabilities to consumers. They key characteristics of cloud computing are 1) delivery of capabilities 'as a service', 2) delivery of services in a highly scalable and elastic fashion, 3) using Internet technologies and techniques to develop and deliver the services, and 4) designing for delivery to external customers. Although cost is a potential benefit for small companies, the biggest benefits are the built-in elasticity and scalability, which not only reduce barriers to entry, but also enable these companies to grow quickly. As certain IT functions are industrialising and becoming less customised, there are more possibilities for larger organisations to benefit from cloud computing.
  • Web-oriented architectures

    The Internet is arguably the best example of an agile, interoperable and scalable service-oriented environment in existence. This level of flexibility is achieved because of key design principles inherent in the Internet/Web approach, as well as the emergence of Web-centric technologies and standards that promote these principles. The use of Web-centric models to build global-class solutions cannot address the full breadth of enterprise computing needs.
